View From A Hill Lyrics
Feel myself falling to the ground
Solitary silence, there's no sound
Open my eyes and look around
Colors and concepts that confound
All around
Pick myself up and take the air
The fragrance of children everywhere
Slowly absorbed into my square
Debating what is and isn't there
Who cares
You wait until your time comes round again
Solitary silence, there's no sound
Open my eyes and look around
Colors and concepts that confound
All around
The fragrance of children everywhere
Slowly absorbed into my square
Debating what is and isn't there
Who cares

According to Mark:
"A song of two halves. The second half actually came first. I'd nipped out with Martin Jackson for a sandwich and when I got back Dave and Reg had come up with the loop. Later on, we jammed out what became the first part, got to the end and didn't know where to go next "Why not go into that instrumental thing you were doing earlier?" I asked. Presto! The first part is a reflection of those very beautiful memories I have of taking acid with the others and climbing Tandle Hill to look out over the sprawling suburbs of Manchester, an experience which is the very essence of 'Script Of The Bridge' Later when it came to recording the track we'd filled all the available tracks with bits and pieces which we were just going to fade out. As we were mixing I asked everyone there to put fingers on buttons and on my count, press them. We did and what you can still here were the tracks we didn't have any fingers left for. We all looked at each other. "Now what?" someone asked. "Push them back in again on my count." I shouted. Reg pushed his on "3" instead of "4' which is why his guitar comes in slightly earlier than everything else, which actually works perfectly."
Great song!
It's about a person experiencing a moment of solitude and introspection. The protagonist is reflecting on the complexities of life and the existence of things.
The line, "You wait until your time comes round again," can be interpreted as a message of patience, suggesting that they should wait for their time to come and not rush things. It can also be seen as a commentary on the cyclical nature of life, where everything eventually comes back around.
I read this song is about an acid trip. But when I hear it, especially the second movement which is instrumental, it reminds me of someone who's dying and the world is slowly fading away. Counfounded by their life flashing before their eyes...
@Sozluk Every acid trip seemed to be about dying and rebirth in my experience.

Beautiful song, well written, haunting, like soaring through the air, taking it all in with whatever substance of your choosing. The Radio 1 Evening Session version is my favorite version. The reverb effects on the guitars are absolutely gorgeous.
