Teenage Dad On His Estate Lyrics

You chase in the rat-race
And you always feel so hollow
You marry because it's expected of you
And it only makes you feel more lonely
But still you look down on the
Teenage dad on his estate
He's happy - so leave him alone
With his baby and his modest home
He's happy - so leave him alone
With his Jensen Interceptor
It's just a runaround

You defer to the views of the television news
Let someone do your thinking for you
And you still buy a daily newspaper
And you find everything there but the news
And still you look down on the
Teenage dad on his estate
He's happy - so leave him alone
With his baby and his modest home
He's happy - so leave him alone
With his Jensen Interceptor
It's just a runaround

You become your parents' parent
And you love them
But you can't help feeling used
And you hate the teenage dad on his estate
Because he's poor but he's happier than you
They're all laughing at you
You're a dipper, a slider, cart-horse provider
Nobody cares about you
Just as long as you're out there bringing it in
Despising the grin on the face of the boy
With the methadone ahh
With his methadone
He's happy - so leave him alone
With his methadone
He's happy - so leave him alone

Another sweeping song about Freedom and being yourself. Don't be normal. Be a freak, and be happy. An undiscovered Morrissey classic.

Another of the lovely B-Sides from You ArE The Quarry, "Teenage Dad On His Estater" is a simple song, defending a young penurious guy's lifestyle from the jealous didain of an unfullfilled yuppie. The song may perhaps actually be sung from the perspective of the Teenage Dad (albeit singing in third person) himself, since the title is "Teenage Dad on His Estate." He is intoning his defense of his happy poverty, his methadone-induced high, and his young fathering in response to the scorning envy of society.

This song is so crazy to me...I myself am a teenage dad...The lyrics pertaining to that end at the title. The crazy, shocking part for me is that the mom's last name is Jensen.

I love Morrissey.

Another amazing song by Moz. Obviously about that happiness is what is most important and that money/sucsess isn't everything in life. Do what makes you happy and f*ck the rest!

Love this song and the lyrics. Morrissey does a wonderful job of charicturing a middle-aged man and his life- reading meaningless news, an ineffectual person whose only value to his household is to bring home money, looking after his parents etc. He uses his criticim about the teenage boy living next to him as an outlet for his anger and frustration about his own pointless life, when in fact the boy is actually happier than he is despite his relative poverty and recovery from drug abuse.
