I feel it necessary to point out that, while the meaning of the "acid" lines does refer to the myth that LSD stays in your spinal fluid, the fact is that LSD/acid does NOT stay in your spinal fluid, and doesn't actually go into your spine at all. It's metabolized by your Liver, and the half-life is only a few hours. It's important to stop spreading these myths, as it only makes perfectly safe drugs like LSD seem dangerous and unhealthy.

I think what ridespirals means is that LSD mostly physically harmless compared to alcohol. However, behaviorally it can be very toxic. Anyway. I have a hunch that yoni knows acid doesn't actually stay in your spine.

This song is absolutely brilliant! the metaphor of the acid in the spinal fluid and the rocks left behind from a dried river is very clever. The men's whiskers and woman's homogenized complexion most likely means that you can tell if a person used to be depressed/hurt in the past just by looking at their face, hence, the rocks and spinal fluid.
seriously one of my favourites, the first time i heard this song i couldn't stop listening to it, it's so haunting and beautiful. the almost live version of it is lovely, too.

I think this is a pretty simple analogy to the way "your face never forgets a cry"...

by saying "your face" he is reffering to your ego, memory, thought process, ability to trust or put yourself out there. he compares it to the small effect acid leaves on your spine that never leaves althought all the effects of the acid leaves fairly quickly
