Goodness Lyrics

Angel, way before there was goodness
Way before there was sadness
You were just like one of us
You were stuck here among us
You were onetime a killer
An untrustable stealer
An unswayable doubter
So don't be so hard on us

Angel, way before ther was darkness
Way before there was lightness
You were an inbetweener
You were riding your dog fence
You were no more and no less
You were no more and no less
You were just like one of us
So don't be so hard on us

Way before we took your arms
Way before you played the harp
You were so in between
Oh dear little believer
I'm here looking for a leader

Now way before we took your arms
Way before you played the harp
Oh dear little believer
I'm here looking for a leader

Now way before we took your arms
Way before you played the harp

I think it might be "little green believer."

I think this song is just saying that angels were once just like everyone else before there was good vs. bad, one vs. the other. I'm sure there's an underlying meaning and the angels are not mere angels as we think of them. Perhaps they are a metaphor for your everyday believer - or, for some reason, I think of a born-again christian. I feel like they're saying, "Hey, you were once like all of us and didn't know right from wrong. So stop judging everyone so harshly because I need someone to guide me."

The very beginning of this song reminds me of I Don't Love Anyone by Belle and Sebastian.

But yeah, I agree with smileforthecamera. This song has an uplifting feel, I like it a lot.
