From a Late Night Train Lyrics

From a late night train
Reflected in the water
When all the rainy pavement
Lead to you
It's over now
I know it's over
But I can't let go

The cigarettes, the magazines
All stacked up in the rain
There doesn't seem to be a funny side
It's over now
I know it's over
But I can't let go

From a late night train
The little towns go rolling by
And people in the station
Going home
It's over now
I know it's over
But I love you so

the saddest and most beautiful song in the world.

Wow! I simply love this song, just because it's so sad. And also because there's almost no music somehow makes this song so beautiful.

@DubJ If emotions could play music, it would sound like this. The listener becomes the song subject.

the closing line of each verse is so sad and then to change the closing line of the last verse captures that desperate feeling of "knowing its over" perfectly. All said within 3 verses and as dubj says - with little music. Fantastic

Superbly crafted and full of emotion. I defy anyone not to be moved by this! Takes me back to late nights in London with a loved one far away and all hope long gone......magic song.

forever's comment pretty much sums it up, yes?

This song was there for me during some rough nights as a college freshman, 18 years ago, so I thought I'd drop in on it. Nice to see that it's loved by others as well.

Nobody else sounds like the Blue Nile. Nobody else possibly could.

any fan should try find a little doco online called Flags and fences, its a them interveiwed and shot playing live.. and has a few backgrounds to songs.. its simply stunning.. i wish it was on wide release

Hauntingly, simple, dark and gorgeous. It eloquently conveys the sense of despair in the subject. Each verse's observations resolve into the same finality. Anyone who has ever lost a loved one and knows there is no going back, knows exactly how he feels. It's a beautiful musical representation of "less is more".

If only this song were better known! It deserves so much more attention. I am only a high schooler so I listen to music my father shows me (i.e. Blue Nile) and more modern music and I am yet to come across a song quite as moving as this one.
