i hear. "i'm sad, i'll miss the city back in the photographs." probably just crazy.

This song is played a half step lower than when they first played it. So their version one their MySpace and on their album, Small Steps Heavy Hooves, arn't in the same key. Thought it was worth noting.

I also hear "I'm sad, I'll miss the city back in the photographs".

ok when i first read the lyrics i thought it was about someone getting dumped and having a hard time moving on. BUT, i think its the other way around.

let me elaborate Run in the front like you said (i sware he says) i'm sad, i'll miss the city back in the photographs -anyways i think hes taking about his career, and he had to leave the girl he loved behind, because hes moving forward with his life. Even though he knows this is the right thing to do, hes still depressed by the whole situation. (cant write his songs, not focusing in shows).

for the chorus, i think the whole part about the grey hair and insecurity is that she lacks assurance in the decision she made (possibly in the relationship and letting him go off) and shes doubting herself (stress does cause grey hair). Also shes trying to cover up, maybe because shes hurt. Maybe shes hiding her emotions, as someone with grey hair would dye their hair to hide their aging. So he left and shes trying to be strong but she knows this is the right thing for both of them.

As for himself, he probably knows this is the best thing for them as well, but he wishes he could pretend to be as strong as her, but he cant because he's already lost himself and fallen apart. And he obviously misses her.

the part about calling his friend just helps my point that hes away somewhere, because he could just go over his house. john reassures him that everything will be fine, things will work out in the end. the singer is doubting himself again, he keeps screwing up, thats why he feels useless.

the last part he says hours to waste into full weeks then months, then into me, a life long disease. -sounds alot like touring, its a career choice and it sucks but you do it cause its what you do. as for her with the grey hair and still means hope, could also mean that with time passing maybe he can come back and pick up where they left off.

having this girl and career at the same time is just too much, she interferes with his career, and his career interferes with her. He had to make the decision and went with the job.
