im thinking this song is about the pressures and burdens of life...perhaps more specifically towards drugs with the reference to 'shooting'. feeling numb as the same amount of wahtever ur hitting feels like less and less.. 'sound of our fears' reminds me of the way u hear when ur high...and with bad trips any sound can seem like a nightmare...its about them losing control, trying to find answers but inevitably being numb and not having the power to do anything..ultimately leading to overdose, which ofcourse could be the 'sound' that is feared by those standing by...too numb to anticipate
