Car Crash Lyrics

In the middle of the car crash,
You turned to me and said:
“Living's so pretty, let’s do it again.”
For all the things we want to do
For all the things we want to do
Oh no, no, no…

In the middle of the car crash
He told me he loved me
With a keychain wedding ring
What you say we get married?
There’s so much more we want to do
There’s so much more we want to do
Oh no…

At seventy miles per hour we rolled up together
Let’s sleep in this ditch tonight and forever
You’re everything I could want to do
There’s nothing more I could want to do but be with you

From an interview between Craig Minowa and Left Hip Magazine...

"Car Crash" was a really weird experience. I had the melody of a song written and I was spending an evening in this small southern Minnesota town, just sitting outside under the stars and waiting for the lyrics to come to me. Suddenly, I got this really vivid imagery of this young teenage couple in a car crash.

The whole song is a storyline snapshot of those 5 seconds between the time the couple realizes they are in entering into a deadly accident and the actual ends of their lives. In those five seconds there's this sort of slow motion mental conversation between them about how much they love each other, how much they wanted to do with their lives and how much they hope they can come back and be together again.

The next day, after writing that song, the big news in this little town was that this teenage couple had been in a car accident on a gravel road just a few miles from where I wrote the song that same evening. Unfortunately, neither of them made it. I don't know if it's coincidence or synchronicity, but whatever it is, it's odd.

I agree with heysailor - it's pretty chilling but also very well written. I love "At seventy miles per hour we rolled up together Let’s sleep in this ditch tonight and forever".

song of the deaf girl, thanks for that. its just as eerie as te song. I love this song because of the soothing voice, even though the story is tragic my favorite line is " with a keychain wedding ring" with love you don't need anything fancy, a wedding ring is mearly a symbol of your heart belonging to someone else and i love that they used something common to show how much they love each other. Great lyrics i love everything about them.

OH MY JESUS. That is scary. I have goosebumps.

Also, I LOVE this song. And I love the "keychain wedding ring" line. I love how that part in emphasized.

Cloud Cult has become the one thing for which I'm proud of Minnesota. They are amazing.

ahh that is sort of akward after reading the interview especially if you look at their other song transitor radio about his grandfather you know.... a sensitive very intuitive intellectual person obviously.. sometimes when you are tuned in and open things bring them selves too you.. you know know with this life what is capable ... or whats capable of ending, its crazy its such a fragile balance but rock solid at the same time... then again rock wears over time.. hmm

Such a beautifully creepy song. I love the instruments at the end and that interview just makes it all the more powerful.
