Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.
I'm comin' up only to hold you under
And comin' up only to show you're wrong
And to know you is hard, we wonder
To know you all wrong, we won
Ooh
Ooh
Really too late to call, so we wait for
Morning to wake you, is all we got
And to know me as hardly golden
Is to know me all wrong, they warn
At every occasion, I'll be ready for the funeral
At every occasion, once more, it's called the funeral
At every occasion, oh, I'm ready for the funeral
At every occasion, oh, one billion day funeral
I'm comin' up only to show you down for
And comin' up only to show you're wrong
To the outside, the dead leaves lay on the lawn
For they don't have trees to hang upon
Ooh
Ooh
At every occasion, I'll be ready for the funeral
At every occasion, once more, it's called the funeral
At every occasion, oh, I'm ready for the funeral
At every occasion, oh, one billion day funeral

Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.
The Night We Met
Lord Huron
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:
"Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet"
So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:
"I had all and then most of you"
Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart
"Some and now none of you"
Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship.
This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
This song is about being obsessed with someone to the point where you just make fun of them and pester them but time is short and he doesnt think he'll ever get the courage to tell her so he just gets ready for her funeral. Or atleast that's what I get from the brilliant song.
I LOVE your screen name! Great song.
I don't think it's about love or obsession, it sounds like if someone has some kind of grudge for another group, in this case its family, i think its about a family that is only toghether for a funeral or somethin:

I'm coming up only to hold you under
I'm coming up only to show you wrong
And to know you is hard; we wonder
To know you all wrong; we were

In this case he was notified of a funeral, he feels bitter and wants to say I told you, maybe about the person who died. "to know you is hard", they o he ir/are difficult people, maybe stubborn people.
then he says he prefers to know them wrong than to actually knowing them/him.

Really too late to call,
So we wait for morning to wake you
That's all we got
to know me as hardly golden
Is to know me all wrong, they were.

as we suspected, they dont like him back, its a they not a he, he has a football complex, he feels like being in another team, so the other team fights back and he is proved wrong at the end.

At every occasion I'll be ready for the funeral
Every occasion, once more, it's called the funeral
Every occasion, know I'm ready for the funeral
At every occasion, oh, one billion day funeral

he realizes he misses even the fights

I'm coming up only to show you down,
For I'm coming up only to show you wrong.

he feels like he dissapointed them, maybe for the life he chose, so he feels the social pressure,
he isnt accepted so maybe he is declining or accepting the invitation if he is talking with the family memeber he means he doesnt want to go, it doesnt have a point, do you want me to go just to make you feel dissapointed? do you want me to show how you were wrong?

To the outside: the dead leaves, they're on the lawn
Before they died, had trees to hang their hope

this wasn't like this, some time ago trees were healthy, but now they lost hope and so died,

And every occasion
I'll be ready for the funeral
And every occasion once more
It's called the funeral
And every occasion
Oh, I'm ready for the funeral
Every occasion
Of one billion day funeral

he finaly accepts it, he misses his family he wants someone to ie to see them again, it doesnt matter when, he has the phone in his hand, just waitin for the call, every occassion he is ready,

Pessimistic ending of the song: he is ready to die and to have a one billion days funeral with the ones that allready passed out, he is ready to at least have his own one.

positive: he wants to solve the problems and stop the fights, he is just waiting for the indicated moment

wow, starts to sound a lot like my moms family and im only 15 lol
