In The Future When All's Well

Living longer than I had intended, Something must have gone right.

I believe only Morrissey can write such songs. You go on and associate it with some sort of memory or feeling and everytime you listen to it, it invokes this song and vice versa. Today's pessimistic individual needs Morrissey to vocalise him.

I find the restlessness a strong feature of our generation, hence the ending is very symbolic to me:

"The future is ended by the long, long sleep."

"how is bruce lee related to this song!?¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿" Bruce Lee once made a movie that took place in Rome (The way of the dragon). And he was quite good at defending people.. That's all I can think of..

this is another one of morrissey dont forget me songs.....think of rubber ring.....its about us....the fans.....he is thank us for our devoution.....letting us know that he appreicate...'i thank you...i thankyou with all of my heart.....the song is also a request...like rubber ring...morrissey i think is worried about how history will judge him....think of the race scandal in the mid 90s....he is asking us...as he did in rubber ring.... to think of him kindly...moreover his asking us too' stand up and defend me'......the bit about 'in the future when all's well' is another hint at sucide i think.....'the future is ended by a long sleep'....the songs meaning is this....morrissey is going to die one day...he is looking forward to this....he is scared that he will not get the credit he feels he deserves...he wants us the fans to be his defence...his supporters...that when he is not here he has people to defend him....i think

this has been described as a postive song by some critics but I see it as a totally sarcastic, truly funny song about always forcing ourselves to believe that things will all turn out right in the future. he's describing this as a sad game, and the longer you play it, the closer you get to the 'long long sleep (death)' before anything ever gets 'well'. so the message might be: stop fooling yourself about the future and live now. at least, that's the message I get from it.
