One Man Wrecking Machine Lyrics
I built a time machine
I’m going to see the homecoming queen
Take her to the Christmas dance
Maybe now I’ll get in her pants. Whatever
Back with my high school friends
Meeting where the train tracks end
Passing round a skinny joint
Rolling up to look out point
I want to pull it apart and put it back together
I want to relive all my adolescent dreams
Inspired by true events on movie screens
I am a one man wrecking machine
Back in my parent's house
Back to the shouting out loud
One day you’ll be a man
One day you’ll understand
I want to pull it apart and put it back together
I want to relive all my adolescent dreams
Inspired by true events on movie screens
I am a one man wrecking machine
Inspired by true events on movie screens
I am a one man wrecking machine
Here in the present tense
Nothing is making sense
Waiting for my moment to come
Everything has come undone
I tried to pull it apart and put it back together
No point in living in my adolescent dreams
Inspired by true events on movie screens
I am a one man wrecking machine
Inspired by true events on movie screens
I am a one man wrecking machine
I’m going to see the homecoming queen
Take her to the Christmas dance
Maybe now I’ll get in her pants. Whatever
Meeting where the train tracks end
Passing round a skinny joint
Rolling up to look out point
I want to relive all my adolescent dreams
Inspired by true events on movie screens
I am a one man wrecking machine
Back to the shouting out loud
One day you’ll be a man
One day you’ll understand
I want to relive all my adolescent dreams
Inspired by true events on movie screens
I am a one man wrecking machine
I am a one man wrecking machine
Nothing is making sense
Waiting for my moment to come
Everything has come undone
No point in living in my adolescent dreams
Inspired by true events on movie screens
I am a one man wrecking machine
I am a one man wrecking machine

From Filter Magazine: One of the highlights is the lead-off single “One Man Wrecking Machine,” which is about a guy who hates his life and wants to go back to “the good ole days” and hang out with his buddies, get high, and make out with the hottest girl in school, as Miller puts it. “I’ve had that fantasy my entire adult life,” he says, “Like, what if I had the confidence of a 30-year-old man as a high school sophomore?”
i hear you so much man!
i hear you so much man!
I think this song relates more to someone looking at their life in the promise and their unfulfilled promise and confusion wanting to go back to a time when things were simpler and the world was wide open to them.
I think we all wish we knew at 16 what we know now at 30.
But does anyone miss when Guster was hand percussion only too?
It's just a song about romanticizing the past (something I and many others I know do all the time), and why the past really isn't ever as great as we remember. I think that it's also about why romanticizing the past can cause problems in the here and now.
i love this song. i love guster. saw this on the leno show, and i'm going to go buy their new cd. this song is about what all of you have already said. just wishing life was like it was when you were younger. i'm 17 and now i feel the need to live life a little better. great song.
I believe that this entire album is a concept album about growing up, this just being the most straightforward.
I think this song is about this guy who's messed up his life and is looking back at all the things he did wrong. He's literally a one man wrecking machine, cause he's wrecked his life. Each verse shows a different point in his life, and how things got screwed up. First it was drugs, then him living at home never growing up, and finally where he is now, nothing makes sense, he's waited for some movie type moment to just make his life happen, but he's never done anything and his life has unraveled. Except now he actually trys (instead of just wanting) to examine his life, and put it back together.
I think we've all felt like this before. Wishing we could relive the old days. But hey- those days are over, and we have to look to the future, right?
He's clearly feeling stuck- both stuck thinking about the past, and stuck in the future, just waiting for something to happen. Maybe he wishes he could go back and fix his life.
Amazing song that I heard for the first time today. I just wish I could have seen them play this song when I saw them play live late last year...
I saw Disturbia yesterday and this song was on it. I instantly fell in love with with it! I think the song's about how a guy wants to go back in time and change the things he's done. Hence "I built a time machine." Then, of course, it says, "I want to re-live all my adolescent dreams." This is one of the best new songs I've heard in a while. It's awesome!
If I knew then what I know now ... I'd be a ... "One-Man Wrecking Machine", the song says!
