This is such a heart rendingly beautiful song that I almost want to cry every time I listen to it. It's clearly about a man broken after being separated from the woman he truly loves and yearning to be with her once again. The 'I can't wait' I think refers to the fact that he can't live much longer without her and is suicidal.
