This song has a more literal meaning to me. There are four clear divisions in the song and I always imagine the span of seasons happening throughout the course of the song. Starting with autumn and its gloomy chill, the sky is getting grey and the leaves are turning yellow, red, and brown and falling off the trees. then the snow begins to fall for winter and the mood lightens a little (I love snow so maybe it's just me) everything is peaceful and calmer. then when the distortion kicks in its like spring bursting onto the scene with the snow melting, leaves growing on trees, flowers blooming, animals coming out of hibernation and everyone is excited about the warmth coming back. then, just like in reality, the division between spring and summer is less clear but towards the end of the song i can always feel the heat pounding down like mid august with the heat rising off the pavement and mirages in the distance...it's an amazing song and to me it's a beautiful portrait of the flow from autumn to summer...I don't think the meaning needs to be deeper than that. What's deeper than life and nature anyways?

Although your choice of vocabulary is far off from what I would have said, I agree that this is a fantastic instrumental.

Just a stab at this: The song could be about bipolar disorder. The shift from autumn to summer could be a mood shift, maybe from bliss to rage, or anything for that matter.

This song was written in major key.. It's a positive song about moving from something bad to something good

The interpretation given by thesameoldtune is very interesting. As for the figurative interpretation: Autumn always signifies something coming to an end; for example, the last years of a person's life. Summer usually symbolizes the high-point and is characterized by love. The song could be going from morose to enjoyment. It could also be about actually going backwards in time. I'm sure if you asked the guys of Pelican, they would honor all these possible meanings.
