Milk and Honey Lyrics
Gold and silver
Is the autumn
Soft and tender
Are the sky
Yes and no
Are the answers
Written in
My true love's eyes
Autumn's leaving
Winter is coming
I think that I'll
Be moving along
I've got to leave her
And find another
I've got to sing
My heart's true song
Round and round
The burning circle
All the seasons
One, two and three
Autumn leaves
And then the winter
Spring is born
And world is free
Gold and silver
Bounds my heart on
All too soon
They fade and die
And then I'd know
There'd be no others
Milk and honey
Where they lie
Is the autumn
Soft and tender
Are the sky
Yes and no
Are the answers

the seasons reflect the way he feels about her. "yes and no" during autumn. "I've got to leave her and find another" in winter. But when spring comes and he is free, he realizes that there's no other like her
Does anyone else like the Jackson C. Frank version too?
He was one of Nick's favourite artists.
I made myself an account just so I could comment on this song. This is my favorite Nick Drake song I have heard and I've been into him for a while now. To me even before i focused on the lyrics, the over all feeling I got from this song is the strongest feeling ive got from other song i have ever heard The soft guitar and over all vibe takes me to a place that is undescribeable. I was just hopeing this song had any sort of similar affect on anyone else, because this song is simply magic to me.
I agree, very beautiful song, though the quality of the Tanworth-Recordings is very bad, but this one is one of my favourites, along with "Winter Is Done" and the Dylan-Cover...
This is one of the saddest and most beautiful songs I've ever heard. To me it is about a somone's lover who dies (is in heaven, the land of milk and honey?) and he tries to move on, but the seasons pass and he realizes no one can replace her.
Oh yes and the words are "Yes and no Are the answers Written in my true love's eyes".
it's Soft and tender Are her skies
It's lush and gorgeous - the lyrics are so rich in imagery that the simple guitar is the perfect accompaniment. I may be in the minority, but I like the scratchy Tanworth recordings. They remind me of early blues recordings, so for me, it adds warmth and authenticity.
