i agree that this song is about trust
in the first verse he talks about he automatically doesnt trust the new person in his lofe, and he doesnt want to be afraid
This is definitely a song about trust issues. the whole part of not wanting to be afraid of someone like you...totally atleast to me means he doesn't want to be afraid when the right person comes around, but all the wrong people keep staying in his life just to destroy him.

I've never thought about the trust issue, but I do completely agree.
I also think it's about someone continually going through the same things, or being afraid to let go of the one person that might just be the right one for them.
