I think the song capture the guilt you feel when losing someone close to you. In my interpretation it's a girl/boy friend, because when someone breaks up with you your self confidence hits bottom and you feel you're not good enough. "And I hate every part of me How could I loose the only thing worth keeping" You hate yourself because you feel you could've done more to keep the love of your life.
