Like a cloud
ushered in by wind
you were just a reaction to my confusion
A hybrid of hundreds of troubles
people felt us connect and ran for shelter
And there are blackouts in L.A. tonight
There's an evident lack of light tonight
An increase in desire
you'll catch me
Hanging out on a wire
cutting the voltage to your power line
(and the lights...go...out)
Like a love
ushered in by bliss
you came to me like a realisation
But your look could sharpen a knife
now all I hear is tearing of paper
And there are blackouts in L.A. tonight
An evident lack of light tonight
An increase in desire
you'll catch me
Hanging out on a wire
cutting the voltage to your power line
(and the lights...go...out)
Now you
cannot affect me
I feel
no electricity
Now you
cannot control me
I feel
no electricity
<repeat once after intermission>
(and the lights...go...out)
And there are blackouts in L.A. tonight
There's an evident lack of light tonight
An increase in desire

This song sounds like it's taking place in a postapocalyptic world. The choice of instruments, the way they're played, along with the vocals...creates a very convincing setting.
@Anonycat Always had a view very similar to it as yours. Except that to me it sounds like the apocalyptic setting is happening while the song is playing itself out :)

This song, to me, represents a girl, the singer, and the un-named target of her affection. The line "Like a cloud...felt us connect and ran for shelter" seems like the girl and most likely a guy, just happened to meet, but it was love at first sight, but the man, (or woman!) doesn't return her love, which is why she has an "increase in desire you'll catch me...". The next verse "Like a love ushered in by bliss..." she figures out she is smitten with this other person, and the line that now comes "Now you, cannot affect me..." seems like she's saying, 'nah, maybe I don't love this person, they aren't taking up my only thoughts...' but then she still realises that she still loves him/her. Thats what I get out of listening to this over the past year or so (not constantly :P )
i think it's more like about a love that was never ment to be... energies mixed at first, but personalieties crashed. a relationship where she was somehow being held captivated by the other person, who supposedly loved her as an object... she's had enough and is finally ending it.
This sounds like a meeting of two powerful energies(people felt us connect and ran for shelter). The woman finds it exciting at first, but. soon finds she is being used. She secretly knows he is unfit to be a long term partner. However she cannot end the affair until one day a change comes over her and she switches off her feelings for him(cutting the voltage to your power line). She now hates and despises him and has left her old self behind(and the lights go out). She has moved up several degrees in the development of her personality.
