I Fought the Law (The Crickets cover) Lyrics

I'm breakin' rocks in the hot sun
I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won

I needed money 'cause I had none
I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won

I left my baby and I feel so sad
I guess my race is run
But she's the best girl I've ever had
I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won

Robbin' people with a six-gun
I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won

I miss my baby and the good fun
I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won

I left my baby and I feel so sad
I guess my race is run
But she's the best girl I've ever had
I fought the law and the law won
I fought the law and the law won

Pretty clear story here. Great song. A true classic, that you never get tired of, as evidenced by the number of bands that have covered this song over the years.

this is the original? I was told the original was written for buddy holly...

No, it was Sonny Curtis, performed first by Sonny Curtis and the Crickets. (Sonny Curtis replaced Buddy Holly after the plane crash.)

I heard (by a family member who talked to one of the band members, that they sometimes use "I miss my baby and the good f***." Such a great beat....no floppy fancy stuff just RnR as it was meant to be. Great video by the band on youtube with go- gos and jail set.
