The Only One Lyrics

Everyone you know's been through it
You bite the bullet, then you chew it
Tie a knot at the end of your rope
Buy a book to help you cope
But no consolation gonna come
You're the only one

Take a look at history
Recant some bits of poetry
You'll find the words still ring true
Some things don't change
Some things do

And you're the only one with a broken heart
The only one who's afraid of the dark
The only one in a crowded room
The only one who sees the blue moon

What you wouldn't give right now
To be another face in the crowd

And you're the only one who is all alone
The only one whose love is gone
The only one who has given in
The only one who will give again

And you're the only one with a broken heart
the only one who's afraid of the dark
the only one in a crowded room
the only one who sees the blue moon

Cover art for The Only One lyrics by Roy Orbison

I came here to say that this song has a laid-back, bluesy arrangement, but the lyrics are freakin' heartbreaking! When Roy sings, "no consolation gonna come", he means it! Roy's vocals are great, as usual.
I've loved this album for years, and always thought this song meant "It feels like you're alone, but you're not". Then I read the lyrics again.

This page indicates that the song fact is supposed to be about the Roy Orbison song "The Only One", which is the 8th track from the album Mystery Girl. which is listed as having been written by Wesley Orbison (Roy's only surviving son) and Craig Wiseman. However, the song being described is Roy's much more famous and much earlier "Only The Lonely". This needs to be corrected. (An accurate description of the lyrics and history of "The Only One" would be appreciated. It appears tat Wesley Orbison may have collaborated with his father while Roy was still alive, but I can find no information to this fact.
