Hold on tight to your dream
Hold on tight to your dream
When you see your ship go sailing
When you feel your heart is breaking
Hold on tight to your dream

It's a long time to be gone
Time just rolls on and on
When you need a shoulder to cry on
When you get so sick of trying
Hold tight to your dream

When you get so down that you can't get up
And you want so much but you're all out of luck
When you're so downhearted and misunderstood
Just over and over and over you could

Accroches-toi a ton reve
Accroches-toi a ton reve
Quand tu vois ton bateau partir
Quand tu sents ton coeur se briser
Accroches-toi a ton reve

When you get so down that you can't get up
And you want so much but you're all out of luck
When you're so downhearted and misunderstood
Just over and over and over you could

Hold on tight to your dream
Hold on tight to your dream
When you see the shadows falling
When you hear that cold wind calling
Hold on tight to your dream

Hold on tight to your dream
Hold on tight to your dream

Yeah, this one is pretty much a given lol,but its basically saying don't do drugs, only you can prevent forest fires, and don't use if you are pregnant or have a heart condition

ELO is a fantastic band. Their songs are almost light-hearted enough to counter the gloom of such bands as Joy Division, Sisters Of Mercy, and Jesus And Mary Chain.

    Almost.

Your dreams are you; whatever you're doing, whoever you're with, whether it's being realised or buried under the litter of every day stuff, we still dream.

I read a great book about realising our dreams. It's a sort of modern fairy tale/fable that somehow clears away some of the litter.

“Why do we have to listen to our hearts?” The boy asked, when they had made camp that day. “Because, wherever your heart is, that is where you’ll find your treasure.” “But my heart is agitated,” the boy said. “It has its dreams, it gets emotional, and it’s become passionate over a woman of the desert. It asks things of me, and it keeps me from sleeping many nights when I’m thinking about her.” “Well, that’s good. Your heart is alive. Keep listening to what it has to say.” ― Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

Another thing I should add is some context of when the song was released. In the early 1980's, the economy in many places was tanking. We were in a deep recession at the time. Part of the problem was that businesses were going computer and laying off people because with a computer, more can be done with fewer people. ELO was saying this rough spot we were in was temporary and don't give up your dreams. Also, if you've ever wondered, the French verse is just a French translation of the first verse.
