That aside, he's just saying that he's trying to find the "one real love" that he's never even seen, but it's just a long haul -- it's a long wait, basically.

Maybe.. he means that he would like to love but its very hard .. this is a very good song.
He is just going through life with all the darkness. Unless he can find true love he is left with the everydayness of life which is a long haul. All he wants to do is catch love and make it stay so he can "draw a little joy out of this place".
I interpreted this song ore on a day-to-day aspect rather than a relationship. It seems he wants to be able to love life for what it is. He can't grasp the beauty that is supposed to be in life, he want it all to come together, and it's not, so he's feeling as if life is just one "Long Haul."
sort of knowing love but not able to make it last. and once you know what it is your missing.. its a long journey to make it there again.. that happiness and such. its a song about patience.. waiting for that right person/relationship that will last. its beautiful and im sure everyone can relate.
