Ride The Cliche Lyrics
She no wait, but she know me
Intake purge, it’s my disease
Hold me closer let me be
Hold me closer let me go away
Barely know you know my name
Trip the witch and ride the shame
Just because you’re so cliched
It don’t mean you won’t get paid
Hold me closer let me be
Hold me closer let me go away
Barely know you know my name
Trip the witch and ride the shame
She no wait, but she know me
Intake purge, it’s my disease
Hold me closer let me be
Hold me closer let me go away
Barely know you know my name
Trip the witch and ride the shame
Intake purge, it’s my disease
Hold me closer let me go away
Barely know you know my name
Trip the witch and ride the shame
It don’t mean you won’t get paid
Hold me closer let me go away
Barely know you know my name
Trip the witch and ride the shame
Intake purge, it’s my disease
Hold me closer let me go away
Barely know you know my name
Trip the witch and ride the shame

They were an amazing band BEFORE they made pop songs, (and after too might I add). Actually the never were really pop they were one of the key bands that brought rock back and got a lot of people listening to alternative. The songs that are categorically "pop" weren't that popular. They are the most underrated band of the 90s in my opinion. Songs that never made it to the airwaves are the incredible ones.
as for this particular song, I'm not sure but it sounds to me like he is with a hooker... "hold me closer let me go away" "get paid" "barely know my name" etc... etc... It's his "disease" to hook up with a hooker and afterwards he rides the shame... What do YOU think???
@STPforever Fourteen years later, I think you’re on to something. I immediately thought it was about having sex with a groupie or a fan of the band, but hooker makes more sense.

if you clicked on this song then congrats you are a true STP fan
the last line sound like hes sayin "trip the bitch and ride the shame"
"Intake purge" - at least this line is about dope.
In fact, I think the entire song is personifying drugs.
"Trip the witch..." - To go tripping, to use drugs.
"Hold me closer, let me go..." - Probably acid in particular. Scott said "Trippin'..." was about a bad acid trip and the chorus is nearly identical in this song.
On second thought, it may very well be about the press, and how it became a cliche in a sense to compare STP to Pearl Jam and the other acts that they were accused of cashing in on.
Lyrics in particular that may very well support this theory: Just because you're so cliched / It don't mean you won't get paid... Barely know you know my name / Trip the witch and ride the shame... She no wait, but she know me...
