If I Can't Change Your Mind Lyrics
Tears fill up my eyes, I'm washed away with sorrow
And somewhere in my mind, I know there's no tomorrow
I see you're leaving soon, I guess you've had you fill
But if I can't change you're mind, then no one will
And all throughout the years I've never strayed from you my dear
But suspect I'm somewhere else, you're feeling sorry for yourself
Leaving with a broken heart, I love you even still
But if I can't change you're mind, then no one will
Even though my hear keeps breaking
Don't you know that I'l be waiting here for you
Then when you return
When will you return
I hope you see I'm dedicated
Look how long I've waited
If you come back, then you will find
Another person if you change your mind
How can I explain away something that I haven't done
And if you can't trust me now, you'll never trust in anyone
With all the crazy doubts you got I love you even still
But if I can't change you're mind, then no one will
Someday you see I've been true, I'll stay that way untill
But if I can't change you're mind, then no one will
And somewhere in my mind, I know there's no tomorrow
I see you're leaving soon, I guess you've had you fill
But if I can't change you're mind, then no one will
But suspect I'm somewhere else, you're feeling sorry for yourself
Leaving with a broken heart, I love you even still
But if I can't change you're mind, then no one will
Don't you know that I'l be waiting here for you
Then when you return
When will you return
I hope you see I'm dedicated
Look how long I've waited
If you come back, then you will find
Another person if you change your mind
And if you can't trust me now, you'll never trust in anyone
With all the crazy doubts you got I love you even still
But if I can't change you're mind, then no one will
But if I can't change you're mind, then no one will

A helpless break-up song. Bob wants the object of his affection to stay with him, but knows that there is nothing that he can say or do to "change their mind," or make them stay.
Great song, makes me envious that I was only two years old when this song (and amazing album, Copper Blue) came out and I had to miss out on a great era of music!
@Maxamadman24 Bob is Gay. I wonder who he's really singing this to?

The singer’s girlfriend has broken up with him, mistakenly believing that he’s been cheating on her when in reality he’s been nothing but faithful to her, but her mind is made up and it seems nothing will change it. The singer still holds out hope that she’ll come around and return to him.
Evidentally this has been covered on... the new Train album? Yes, that Train. But hey, it'll get them a few more royalty checks, and as long as the Train version doesn't become a hit single, I'll never have to actually hear this.
Pure denial song, ha ha! A little conceited too. Even though it's so obviously over I still think I'm so great that I can still make you stay. The middle section is pure denial, "when you return you'll see how great I was waiting for you to come back 'cos I knew you'd come back".
