This is one of the most heartbreaking/wrenching songs written in the past 10 years. The simple guitar plucking really add to its depth and sadness. My interpretation is that she knows he's going to leave and eventually he does, leaving her in thought and wondering why. She doesn't seem bitter, just possibly confused and lost.
Really is a beautiful song.
