Creatures of Love Lyrics

A woman made a man
A man he made a house
And when they lay together
Little creatures all come out

Well, I've seen sex and I think it's alright
It makes those little creatures come to life
I can laugh or I can turn away
Well, I've seen sex and I think it's okay

We are creatures, creatures of love
We are creatures, creatures of love
From the sleep of reason, a life is born
We are creatures of love, we are creatures of love

It's okay to be afraid
When the blue spark hits your brain
We can love one another
I've been told that it's okay

Doctor, doctor, tell me what I am
Am I one of those human beings
Well I can laugh or I can learn to think
So help me now to find out what I feel

We are creatures, creatures of love
We are creatures, creatures of love
We've been here forever, before you were born
We are creatures of love, We are creatures of love

A man can drive a car
And a woman can be a boss
I'm a monkey and a flower
I'm everything at once

Well, a woman and a man can be together
If they decide to they'll make little creatures
Watch 'em now!
Little creatures of love
With two arms and two legs
From a moment of passion
Now they cover the bed

Little creatures of love, we are creatures of love
We are creatures, creatures of love
We are creatures, creatures of love
From the sleep of reason, a life is born
We are creatures of love, we are creatures of love

The "little creatures" are babies. Infants. Los bebecitos. It's about how babies generate from the joyful union of two loving partners and how we ALL come from the love between our moms and our dads

In society, sometimes sex is viewed negatively --- I think this song is just a reminder that sex is natural because we are "creatures of love".

Life, as told from the POV of a sperm. Vary rare is it that sex results in a baby (thank you, birth-control), but frequently results in male ejaculation (though that's not necessarily the finish line).

I totally, totally! agree with what battleofny said. I love to think that we are "creatures of love" in such a frustrating and sad world. So I definitely think that "creatures of love" refers to people as well as what I said previously.

That "sex is viewed negatively" point: I know! What is going on here? America is a hormonal adolescent. It can't seem to stop thinking about sex but is repressed and terribly ashamed and ignorant as well. That silly abstinence-only education sure isn't helping matters, either. Attention high-schoolers: two methods of birth control, one must be a condom. Get tested. Have your partner get tested (go together, bond!) Remember that many STI's are treatable and as harmless (and sometimes as common, see herpes) as the common cold. Talk about it! Laugh about it! The first step to releasing sex from the realms of the taboo is communication. You're a creature of love.

I agree with the comments above. This song is just saying it's nothing to be ashamed of because, well, thats how life continues. Anyway this is a beautiful song (:

"I'm a monkey and a flower"

Interesting to see that this line later showed up in visual form on the cover of Naked (well, okay, a chimp and a flower. A pansy, to be specific. Chimp. Pansy. Get it?)
