Unglued Lyrics

and he's on the roof
poised unmoved
his flight ahead
he's on the roof
he smiles unmoved
he holds his breath
and lifts his head
and spreads his wings

it's not far now
i found the sure way
to the ground

he's off the roof
he comes unglued
he turns his head
and he's off the roof
he came unglued
he's thrilled to death

it's not far now
i found the sure way
to the ground
to the ground
he's coming down

his feathers melt away
the sun was out today
his feathers melt away
but he seemed quite ok
his feathers melt away
we've all seen better days

his feathers melt away
the sun was out today
his feathers melt away
we've all seen better days

Cover art for Unglued lyrics by Shiner

Using the myth of Icarus to outline a story of a young(?) man who is committing suicide by jumping off a roof. Icarus in the story as we all know attempts to escape with Daedalus by using wings to fly away from their prison on the island of Crete, but he flies too close to the sun, which causes his wings to become "unglued" by melting them away.

In the context of a suicide jumper, he has intense determination leading up to the jump "and he's on the roof, poised unmoved/smiles unmoved", however, I see the second verse as his confidence in his decision melting away as he makes the jump and is on the way down, which is allegedly a common feeling for the survivors of suicide jumpers (and suicide attempt survivors in general). Hence why he is "thrilled to death".

Great song, and Shiner is a super underrated band.
