Goodnight Boy Lyrics
The story I wrote as a kid
So, yeah, I felt so scared
Watching the flames crayon red
This kid hung on me too
So I had to hide in a church
Just me and the town mayor
And his son who was handicapped
Who wouldn't be quiet
Unless his dad would sing him a song
So, yeah, it wasn't long
Before they found out just where we were
But I wasn't mad at that kid at all
I just felt sort of sad when his dad said
"Goodnight, boy
Go to sleep, boy
Shut up, boy, for me"
Then the troops rush in
So, yeah, I felt so scared
Watching the flames crayon red
So I had to hide in a church
Just me and the town mayor
And his son who was handicapped
Who wouldn't be quiet
Unless his dad would sing him a song
So, yeah, it wasn't long
Before they found out just where we were
But I wasn't mad at that kid at all
I just felt sort of sad when his dad said
Go to sleep, boy
Shut up, boy, for me"

oh my
i must say i adore this song i get really sad when he starts signing about what his dad would say to the boy to make him quiet
i love it
im not sure but i guess its just a normal song about a situtation u could be in if you were in the middle of a war.
I also thought of people hiding in a church during an air raid or something, but the line "Just me and the Town Mayor" made me wonder, perhaps "Then the troops rush in" is just a metaphor?
I think it's about the holocaust because the remaining people would huddle together and everyone would be really quiet so the Nazi's couldn't find them so the dad is telling the boy to be quiet so they wouldn't be found.. but I suppose it is like that in every war...
I had thought that (much like before the fall of the Berlin Wall) he had writtena controversial book and was being persecuted for it. And he hid in a church during the raid, but the Mayor's son gave them away.
I have a version of this song that has a bunch of background noise. At one point, one of the girls says, "there was a mic here?"
I think it was an english assignment he did when he was a kid, actually. Like sometimes you have to write narratve. Maybe he found it somewhere and decided to write it. It sort of reads like a story written by a little kid, though, without a doubt, a talented one.
As far as the story goes, I think you guys hit it. I take it that the village is angry at him for some reason, and have came after him and the town mayor and his son. Of course the boy gives them away, and the townspeople rush in.
It's a good song.
Corelila I have the same version as you! When I first read the lyrics to this I expected it to be very sad sounding, but it clearly isn't. I really like it.
Just read the lyrics while listening to the song.
Just wow.
You guys are retarded. If the song was about the very first thing that popped into your head when you listen to it, especially when that song is just a narrative, there would be no point in discussing the meaning. A war or something is obviously the SETTING, but what message is being conveyed?
