A Cross and a Girl Named Blessed Lyrics

She wears a butterfly on her wrist
but she might as well cut it's head off
she's holding out for weaponds to kill the ghosts inside
or at least kill the thoughts she has of killing her mind
she says "I love you" with her hands
she says "I hate you" with her eyes

There's a pretty girl somewhere with a pretty name
but I could never let you know how much this means
I swear we'll end this war, because we both know
it wasn't worth fighting for

I wear God's name up by my wrist
but she might as well tear my skin off
She's letting go convictions to release the ghosts inside
to release all the suffering of a cross and a girl
I sing "I love you" way too much
so ill say "I hate you" for tonight

There's a pretty girl somewhere with a pretty name
but I could never let you know how much this means
I swear we'll end this war, because we both know
it wasn't worth fighting for

She, she said to me I will be driving in the wrong direction
did you ever think that maybe your life
is heading in the wrong direction, baby?
there's a cross up on the wall
see from the corner of your eye
when you're down on you knees...and she's begging please
so go and lay back down tonight
because you won't know who you are
until you're down on your knees...your begging please

There's a pretty girl somewhere with a pretty name
but I could never let you know how much this means
I swear we'll end this war, because we both know
it wasn't worth fighting for
she said to me...

It's definitely about the end of a relationship, however, I don't think "there's a pretty girl somewhere" means another girl. I think he loves her and doesn't want to lose her, but he knows he has to make her happy. "I sing 'I love you', so I'll say 'I hate you' tonight". He loves her... but, because he loves her so much, he'll do what's best for her, and end the war.

I'm going through the exact same thing right now and it's the worst feeling in the entire world.

What i think but i could be wrong!

"She wears a butterfly on her wrist but she might as well cut it's head off she's holding out for weaponds to kill the ghosts inside or at least kill the thoughts she has of killing her mind she says "I love you" with her hands she says "I hate you" with her eyes"

Like she's cutting herself to make the ghosts aka pain of the past go away, maybe of a past lover she lost.

"There's a pretty girl somewhere with a pretty name but I could never let you know how much this means I swear we'll end this war, because we both know it wasn't worth fighting for"

He loves her but he could never truly admit it because of her ways, and fighting has started about that, and even thou he cares for her the fighting only makes it worse!

"I wear God's name up by my wrist but she might as well tear my skin off She's letting go convictions to release the ghosts inside to release all the suffering of a cross and a girl I sing "I love you" way too much so ill say "I hate you" for tonight"

I think gods name stands for a cross on his wrist, he believing in god, and her not.. But she's letting go finally telling him, and he love's her but at this moment he hates her for whatever see's did!

She, she said to me I will be driving in the wrong direction did you ever think that maybe your life is heading in the wrong direction, baby? there's a cross up on the wall see from the corner of your eye when you're down on you knees...and she's begging please so go and lay back down tonight because you won't know who you are until you're down on your knees...your begging please

"Sounds like he is going to leave her... But she's begging him please for give her for the sins she has done to him and herself and he looks at the cross and i think he understands he can't judge her and he loves her as god shall to all his childern"

Could be wrong i think it's a relationship that she was hiding from doing sins, and he being a man of god said no has to change and the fighting started and was about to end the relationship, but she finally let her sins go confessing them to him, and he was going to walk out on her leave her, but he saw the cross and understood he loved her and she need him! right or wrong i like this song!

This continues the story from "Dark That Follows" and "The Promise and The Threat".

To summarize, this girl is dating this guy, but is having a relationship on the side with the singer. She loves them both, but refuses to leave her boyfriend. The singer can't just walk away. In "Promise", she tries to leave her boyfriend, to be unsuccessful, and only to start fights about it with the singer. At the end, she hasn't left her boyfriend, and the singer still can't walk away, although now he is feeling quite bitter toward the girl.

This song I think speaks of the girl's more physical relationship with the singer after all the fights they had. "She says I love you with her hands, she says I hate you with her eyes". That she's still having her affair even though she feels bitter toward the singer for trying to make her choose one guy over the other.

The chorus is him saying that eventually they're going to get past this, one way or the other, because what's going on isn't worth fighting over. Or, alternatively, their relationship will end up fading away because it wasn't worth trying to make it work anymore.

I think the chorus is just him thinking about her, "There's a pretty girl somewhere, with a pretty name" when she's not with him, and that he probably will never tell her how he feels about her, because she's not as committed to this relationship as he is, as he would like her to be.

I think at the end of it, she goes to him one more time ("Down on your knees/and she's beggin' please") and then she tells him it's done. I think at that point he begs her to stay "You won't know who you are until you're down on your knees, and you're begging please")

But I gather she leaves anyway.

Basic meaning to the song... End of a relationship... everythings pretty much right there in the lyrics

Basically what BRUINSrock said- end of a relationship.

What it appears is that the couple are together when there is nothing left to be united over... "It wasn't worth fighting for."

The narrator has apparently moved on "There's a pretty girl somewhere/with a pretty name" but won't admit this to his significant other "But I can never let you know how much this means."

Yeah, it's definitely about a relationship turned sour and they both know that it isn't worth fighting for. Pretty straightforward lyrics.

My take: He is into her, but they bring out the worst in each other.. hence this line: "It wasn't worth fighting for".

I also like AgainstJosh's interpretation.

Honestly this song reminds me of my ex girlfriend Nikole. She's schizophrenic and the line "She's holding out for weapons to kill the ghosts inside or at least kill the thoughts she has of killing her mind she says "I love you" with her hands she says "I hate you" with her eyes" It reminds me of how whenever she'd have an episode she would sit and cry and tell me how much she just wanted the voices to stop and how she wished they would die. She'd hate me for not having to deal with what she feels but she would hold me as if she would be lost if I wasn't there. It's not what the songs about but it's what the song means to me. I love her very much still.

Deladeus, I think that your explaination of what this song means to you fits perfectly. Even though I agree that it's not what it's written about. It makes a lot of sense that way though, and I really like your connection to it.
