Benny Got Blowed Up Lyrics
Tired of shootin' smack, tired of on the run
Traded the needle for the gun
Tired of livin' small, tired of the withdrawal
No more retreat, give it the all
Oh Benny how many times you tried to kill yourself?
OD's and robberies and super stunts
I never thought you'd die from them
Riding around in tanks, fire a round of blanks
Benny had never had such fun
Until he took a wrong step into a bomb
And that's when Benny got blowed up
Alone, under a blanket soaked with sweat and piss
We figured Benny would end up like this
We just didn't think for them
Traded the needle for the gun
Tired of livin' small, tired of the withdrawal
No more retreat, give it the all
OD's and robberies and super stunts
I never thought you'd die from them
Benny had never had such fun
Until he took a wrong step into a bomb
And that's when Benny got blowed up
We figured Benny would end up like this
We just didn't think for them

another cool 7 inch nofx song!
i think this song is about a drug addict in america, seeing as america recruits the poor etc, he joins the army and ends up 'getting blowed up'
or maybe its about getting killed in training "Riding around in tanks, fire a round of blanks" and "Until he took a wrong step into bomb" maybe its displaying the clumsyness of the american army.
people will flame me for that, but its true.
I don't see any flaming....
I agree (about the meaning of the song and about the American army)
"i never thought you'd die for them" pretty straightforward, about how a poor drug addict joins the army only to be killed. kickass song
this song is the reason i joined the army
This song compares drug use and joining the army. An addict joins th army so instead of slowly dieing og drugs he gets blowed up right away.
actually i kind of disagree. i think its about a drug addict whos decided to clean up his act, do the "right thing" and join the army. only to be blown up. pretty ironic huh..? and also fits in with a theme in the album "where is your god now?"
Good point cheddaringo, benny obviously 'traded the needle for the gun' in a contious effort to quit and do something active in life. The irony is also clear in that at first he's having so much fun, only to get blown up when he least expects it. Anybody know if this is completely fictional, or if one of the guys knew a 'benny'?
the lyrics for the first verse are wrong on the 4th line. It should go like this: "no more retreat, give it the all"
i know i now had the wrong meaning i thought because of the "i never thought you'd die for them" i thought it was some heroic act saving like children or something i never really payed attention to other lyrics
This is a sad story but i think it might be a warning also. People don't think about what they are getting into by joining the army. They have fun riding around in tanks, but nobody thinks about what could really happen, such as stepping on a bomb. This is a great song with strong irony. Gotta love NOFX.
