Over Your Shoulder Lyrics
Cautiously
take cover in the woodland
no mistakes at all
Some terrain
will catch you at your weakest
careful not to fall
Stay by the fire
sip from your water
lie in position
the winds blowing colder
All these conditions
will keep you from dying
as long as you're looking
over your shoulder
Stay aware
of echoes in the moonlight
careful not to call
Don't engage
in any kind of dreaming
conscious through it all
If in doubt
find space beside a river
careful not to drown
Stick it out
there's hope on the horizon
keep from going down
take cover in the woodland
no mistakes at all
will catch you at your weakest
careful not to fall
sip from your water
lie in position
the winds blowing colder
will keep you from dying
as long as you're looking
over your shoulder
of echoes in the moonlight
careful not to call
in any kind of dreaming
conscious through it all
find space beside a river
careful not to drown
there's hope on the horizon
keep from going down

no one wrote one word about antimatter yet? sad! anyway... here we go:
out of the dusts of anathema, antimatter rose... and the dust of anathema is enough to provide all that's necessary to give birth to perfect songs...
this is -in my opinion- the best of antimatter... a perfect chorus riff... makes you want to sing... i learned to sing and play it on guitar right after hearing it...
there's also an acoustic version with the male singer only... both recordings are perfect. i can't decide which is better...
This song is basically the only reason why I want to learn how to play guitar. Which I'll do, someday...
As far as what the song means ... I think it's saying "Don't worry. Things'll work out, eventually. Stay with reality, don't get carried away in fantasies and daydreams."
The final lines
Stick it out there's hope on the horizon keep from going down
have actually been some consolation to me recently. If I ever get to meet these guys, I'll just have to say "Thank you!"
Beautiful optimistic song by a band often so depressing and pessimistic... all great stuff!
Was this really written by J Mascis?
