Multiply Lyrics

well
I'm sure it never used to be
so hard this hard
used to get those kicks for free
but now I'm towing the line
this aint no way to be
stuck between my shadow and me
I could put it where the sun don't shine
although I'll tell you that I'm doing fine

I'm so tired of repeating myself
beating myself up
wanna take a trip and multiply
least go under with a smile

I'm sure I never used to be in trouble
so much trouble
where love is just a shackle I see
going out of my mind
this aint no way to be
stuck between my showdow and me
the suns going down
it's getting dark in here
still folks say I got nothin' to fear

but
I'm so tired of repeating myself
beating myself up
wanna take a trip and multiply
least go under with a smile

people on the street there are many many
people on the moon there aint any any
falling down the same old hole
taking a dive coz I got no control

I so tired
so tired
so tired
so tired ...

I'm so tired of repeating myself
beating myself up
wanna take a trip and multiply
least go under with a smile

What a great song. It's as if the ghost of Wilson Pickett channeled itself through the soul of some British white boy

This album in general has a darker tone than its sound would belie. It takes a page from 70s Marvin Gaye, but is grimmer. This song, for instance, is about committing suicide over a broken heart. Seems to me to 'multiply' part has to do with anti-depressants, and prob. overdosing. Fantastic song, though.

Good interpretation unrepped. Though, when I listen to it, I just think of life in general. I look at it with regards to shyness, self-confidence and feeling good about yourself. But yeah, it probably shouldn't be interpreted in that way.

I heard about an interpretation of this being about multiple personalities; under that interpretation, I think "stuck between my shadow and me" makes more sense, and going under is not dying, but going crazy, which he references.

I think it's just about a frustrating boy who is tired of "beating himself up" and wants to go make babies, babies and more babies!
