Q&A
Expecting To Fly Lyrics
There you stood at the edge of your feather,
Expecting to fly.
While I laughed, I wondered whether
I could wave goodbye,
Knowing that you'd gone.
By the summer it was healing,
We had said goodbye.
All the years we spent with feeling,
Ended with a cry,
Babe, ended with a cry,
Babe, ended with a cry.
I tried so hard to stand,
As I stumbled and fell to the ground.
So hard to laugh as I fumbled,
And reached for the love I found,
Knowin' it was gone.
If I never lived without you,
Now you'd know I'd die.
If I never said I love you,
Now you know I'd try.
Babe, now you know I'd try,
Babe, now you know I'd try,
Babe.
Expecting to fly.
While I laughed, I wondered whether
I could wave goodbye,
Knowing that you'd gone.
By the summer it was healing,
We had said goodbye.
All the years we spent with feeling,
Ended with a cry,
Babe, ended with a cry,
Babe, ended with a cry.
As I stumbled and fell to the ground.
So hard to laugh as I fumbled,
And reached for the love I found,
Knowin' it was gone.
If I never lived without you,
Now you'd know I'd die.
If I never said I love you,
Now you know I'd try.
Babe, now you know I'd try,
Babe, now you know I'd try,
Babe.

another perfect example of how deep neil young's lyrics go. this song is obviously about a lost love and the singers reflection some time later. i like how the song is used at the end of "fear and loathing..." kinda emphasizes the "lost love" of the 60's years later in the 1970s.
Great song, I love Neil Young. RIP HST
Great song, I love Neil Young. RIP HST
why RIP? neil young isnt dead!
HST = Hunter S. Thompson
Everyone is saying Neil Young but it's Buffalo Springfield
@brian11439 It's credited to Buffalo Springfield, but its actually just Neil with an orchestral arrangement by Jack Nitzsche. It's also one of the most beautiful and saddest songs I've heard.
