All Tomorrows Parties Lyrics

And what costume shall the poor girl wear
To all tomorrows parties?
A hand-me-down dress from who knows where
To all tomorrows parties

Where will she go, what shall she do
When midnight comes around?
She'll turn once more to Sunday's clown
And cry behind the door

And what costume shall the poor girl wear
To all tomorrows parties?
Why silken trimmings of yesterday's gown
To all tomorrows parties?

What shall she do with Thursday's rags
When Monday comes around?
She'll turn once more to Sunday's clown
And cry behind the door

And what costume shall the poor girl wear
To all tomorrows parties?
For Thursday's child is Sunday's clown
For whom none will go mourning

A blackened shroud, a hand-me-down gown
Of rags and silks, a costume
Fit for one who sits and cries
For all tomorrows parties

am I the first to comment on that? It's a nice song, rather unusual. I think It's about wearing a disguise and hiding your true feelings. Hence the "costume" and the "clown".

Yeah, I can see that, the days are the names of her various faces. Sundays clown is the one she is more often, mocked(clowns are mocked), miserable and ashamed(cries behind the door). So Sunday may be who she really is whereas thursday and monday are who she wears for all tomorrows parties. Maybe it's about Bipolar disorder or Narcissism, or something entirely different that I haven't though about yet.

can't find the Lou version. someone please tell me where I can find it!

@othatzsokewl To the best of my knowledge, Lou never performed it. He wrote it for Nico to sing in the Velvet Underground.
