Sensitive Subject Matter Lyrics

I told I would be there for you
A promise I intend to keep
But the subject matter hits a little too close to home
And now I can't take back what I gave

All the times we've seen
The states we've been in
You always saved me from my troubled self it seemed
But now I'm hearing all these words you say
And I'm not sure if I can stay
And listen to you melting all my dreams

Baby, it's you that kept my feet on the ground
Thought that I could choose if I always wanted you around
Darling, I do
Think we need time apart
I still need time to mend my broken seams

I told you I would listen to you
So I'm all ears
But don't ask me respond to
Your pleads for my advice
Cause now I'm too burdened to speak

Baby, it's you that kept my feet on the ground
Thought that I could choose if I always wanted you around
Darling, I do think we need time apart
I think the time has come for me to go

I can't be by myself
But there is no one else
And well it hurts to know someone else tastes your lips
But I can not forget how hard I cried
When I discovered you had lied
When you said I could never hurt like this

Baby, it's you that kept my feet on the ground
I thought that I could choose if I always wanted you around
Darling, I do think we need time apart
And I think the time has come for me to go

Cause I'm weary
I'm so weary
I told you I'd be there
I'm broken
I'm so broken
But I'm here
It's painful
It's so painful
I told you I'd be here
these are secrets I can not afford to hear
These are secrets I can not afford to hear

I definitely agree with basket case. This was my therapy when my boyfriend cheated on me. He used to be the one that made me stay sane (kept my feet on the ground), but when he cheated on me, I was devastated. I promised to be there for him when he went to Iraq and I felt like I still had to keep that promise, even though he had broken all of his. The last part, "Cause I'm weary, I'm so weary, I told you I'd be there..." really describes how I felt. I was just exhausted from being so hurt and still trying to be there for him (stupid for me to do that, I know). I was broken because I really trusted him and he let me down. Bonnie McKee has some amazing lyrics and many of her songs have helped me through rough times.

I like how she says "I need time to mend my broken seams" Because the word 'heart' could rhyme in there after the first line before that lyric, but it's like she doesn't want to say that her heart was broken.

Which, relates to me. I don't want to say my heart was broken, maybe it ached a bit. I don't want to admit, or even hint at admitting, that I gave my heart at all.

I agree with what's been said. It is such a beautiful song, one of my favorites from Bonnie. It kills me how her voice aches but she refuses to admit she let her guard down to get hurt in the end.

I think she also tries to put on a façade and act like everything is okay, even though she is broken. Very, very pretty song :)
