This Hyper World Lyrics

Oh, for the first time in your life
you're asking me for my advice
But don't you dare think you're off the hook
without me taking an honest look

You got nothing up your sleeve
you got plenty on your mind
and your mouth is getting dry
because you're yawning all the time
and the days are getting longer
but your patience ticks away
and the wind could knock you over
if the walls weren't in the way

What can you do? What can you do about it?
What can you do? What can you do?

Oh, you've got to close your eyes
strike that, you've got to open them
Oh, your thoughts are flexible
but somehow you have broken them

you're knocking at the door
like you'd rather not find out
what is on the other side
because it proves beyond a doubt
that you never had a clue
what you wanted all along
you attempt to hold your ground
like being weak is being strong

What can you do? What can you do about it?
What can you do? What can you do?
Oh, I don't know, run outside and twirl
Scream hello at this hyper world

Oh, run the rooftop marathon
until your sense of up and down is gone
Discover ten brand new ways
to make tomorrow's weather like today's

You're stuck inside a pattern.
You're stuck inside a loop
and you're stuck inside a pattern
You're stuck inside a loop
and you're stuck inside a pattern
You're stuck inside a loop
and you're stuck inside a pattern
You're stuck, so take a hammer to it

What can you do? What can you do about it?
What can you do? What can you do?
Oh, I don't know, run outside and twirl
Scream hello at this hyper world

I only understand myself
Just me and nobody else
I only understand myself
Just me and nobody else

What can you do? What can you do about it?
What can you do? What can you do about it?
What can you do? What can you do about it?
What can you do? What can you do?
What can you do? What can you do about it?
What can you do? What can you do?

Oh, I don't know, run outside and twirl
Scream hello at this hyper world
I don't know, run outside and twirl
Scream hello at this hyper world

I think it's aimed at someone who doesn't really do much and is being told to go outside and be spontaneous and spazztastic.

This song appears to be about the stress and monotony of everyday life grinding you down, and their advice on how to "break out of it" (for want of a better phrase)

It starts out with someone who most likely is looking for something different. It then leads into how with a good look, they're earnest, but totally locked into their comfort bubble. They want to change, but they don't want it to change, and become defensive because of their wavering doubt and insecurity (you attempt to hold your ground...)

His idea is to shake it up by actually going out and seeing the world for all it is, doing senseless and crazy things for the sake of doing senseless and crazy things and enjoying it.

Put a hammer to it!

Okay, since nobody else has put this one forward a couple of friends and I have a theory about this song. We think it might very well be about having a best friend with an amphetamine addiction.

"You got nothing up your sleeve you got plenty on your mind"

This line reminds me of the stereotypical restlessness and disposession of those who have been on amphetamine for a lengthy period of time.

"and your mouth is getting dry because you're yawning all the time and the days are getting longer but your patience ticks away and the wind could knock you over if the walls weren't in the way"

This bit is the crutch of the arguement. All of these represent characteristics of amphetamine users. The drying of the mouth, the exhaustion without the ability to sleep, the illusionary extension of time and the irritability brought on by lack of sleep as well as the physical frailty again brought on by malnourishment and exhaustion.

"Oh, run the rooftop marathon until your sense of up and down is gone Discover ten brand new ways to make tomorrow's weather like today's"

Again, the imagery here; the dizziness and the repetition (Again seen in the following bridge "Stuck inside a pattern/Stuck inside a loop", which is repeated for emphasis), all could seem to portain to amphetamine use.

"I only understand myself Just me and nobody else I only understand myself Just me and nobody else"

This could either be the inability of the narrator to empathise or alternatively the inability of the subject of the song to empathise with others (if the theory holds, of course)

I like how Lemon Demon can write a song, somewhat deep, but still keep the light hearted lyrics. The song is most definatly about the endless cycle of life though, doing everything the same everyday.

But Lemon Demon knows how to combine Geek Rock and some serious lyrics when they want to and make it awesome.
