I think this is a nice love song...actually it's kinda poetic... In reading the lyrics and listening to it as I type this, I can deduce that this is about a guy who is going to have a son...he's beginning his life after college it seems, starting his family with the woman he loves... A very nice love song.
I think it's about newlyweds or something and they're having money troubles while starting a family. The guy is saying that he loves this woman so much, they'll make it through this together. Such a sweet love song....

I love this song. It takes me back to being a little kid in the late 70s and hearing this on the AM radio in the car with my Mom. It stuck me then how much this related to my parents. Mom was 17 when the married and my Dad was 19. They had three kids within the first 5 years of their marriage. Things were really tight when they were first married and they had no money. I was the only boy and born in late Feb, so I'm a Pisces so I think I related to it that way too.
I read an interview Kenny Loggins gave and in it he said this song was inspired by his brother. His brother had written him a letter telling him that his first on was on the way. Kenny said he could just fell the pride jumping off the page - and he sat down and wrote this song about his brothers' life with his new wife and first son on the way.
