Felt like a ghost
Drifted in through my window
And charged the air with a cold, freezing feeling
That i've never known
Well this storm must be lost
Weather alerts going off
Babe can you shut the window
And ill let the faucets drip
Cause a big storm is coming
With freezing rain
And the pounding on my trailer now
Sounds like a moving train
And the trees are falling
All around me
And its raining ice
Sideways
Its raining trees
This ain't no average
Texas freeze
It took out the power lines
Until then we were doing fine
Now its dark and its cold
And the storms wind still blow
I'm just munching on bread
All our phones are dead
And I pray that the trees
Above me
Don't fall on
My baby and me
Cause' its raining ice
Sideways
Its raining trees
Well this ain't no average
Texas freeze

sticking with the tragedy Neil went through, i see this as describing the time when he was trying to decide what he was going to do after the tragedy. Is he going to find some reason for moving on or is he going to let it get the best of him and spiral downward.

He reuses the verse melody from the previous album's "Dirty Little Religion", the topics of the verses are all over the place, and he packs too many words into one line (goes to show...) and too few in another (it's pretty hard to find), and rhymes "Henley Regatta" with "Persona non grata", but gets away with it all as only he could.

Techno Ted may be a person who caused Chris incredible emotional pain & trepidation as well as moments of peace & happiness but now is removed and awaiting his fate. Darling may be a different person who is also free of him and can live her life free of Ted's tyranny. "In between all the laughing, and daydreams ... lies: a desert of truth" Lies are like a desert or the omission of Truth: Where there were Lies then Truth was absent. The song, "Techno Ted", may be a cathartic celebration of the downfall of this person.

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
