On the Road Lyrics

You said I was a back seat driver

You said I was the road-map reader

You said I was the driving licence

On the road

You said I was the hand-brake

You said I was the glove compartment

On the road

Well in one sense the singer becomes less and less an active partipant "on the road" (maybe a relatioonship or life metaphor?) First he is at least a taking an active interest in driving. Then merely giving left or right directions the simply the means which allow one to drive. The comes a schism. the handbrake. Stopping driving alltogether. (driving again maybe being life or a relationship). His last role is as a glove compartment closed off andd not an interactive component or enabler of driving at all. Or so i gather.
