The Fall Lyrics
a million tents and trailers will cover the open desert
your kids will learn again
how to build a fire
where to look for water
and the families are bound together now
by the fall of all the great cities
finally to sing out their stories and the histories
of hunger and a victory
back into the old gypsy circles
where the swaying girls
will play out the old rituals
the boys will be delirious
the desperate and serious
the chasing will be furious
the drums and the rain
will come together
out and the cities are all lost
but the circle is found
it’ll tie us together
my kind of town
who were you before the fall
i was a singer i saw the future
laid out in dominos
now i hunt the buffalos
and my darling who are you
behind the counter
with the day memorized
and those cold vacant eyes
well you swore you were free
swore you could see him coming
it was old angel midnight
stealing the water
he’s right out of the ground
and the news may be true
but the facts were never found
and the market is dead
and the phone lines are down
but it ties us togethers
my kind of town
your kids will learn again
how to build a fire
where to look for water
and the families are bound together now
by the fall of all the great cities
finally to sing out their stories and the histories
of hunger and a victory
back into the old gypsy circles
where the swaying girls
will play out the old rituals
the boys will be delirious

the chasing will be furious

i hear "the drugs and the rain"
this song could possibly be about Hurricane Katrina and how the people basically had to depend on eachother for safety, shelter, food, water, etc.
either way, this song is perfect from start to finish. this song introduced me to Red Hunter.
i read in a couple of interviews and i've come to stand strictly by the idea that it's about the end of modern civilization, and how once all of it's gone (technology, i mean)(although if technology were gone then we'd just start to build it right back up so this sort of thing is unrealistic, but whatever, it sounds cool) we'd go back to being hunter-gatherer's and all that ("now i hunt the buffalo"), and being pretty primitive, and how it would be beautiful. andrew bird has a very very similar song called "tables and chairs". i think i like them about equally. but yeah, going back to nature, man. that's like poetry.
red said something somewhere about how he read what FEMA's plans were if something happened to california
something how they'd set everyone up in tents in the desert.
