Coalmine Lyrics

It's been a tough year for all it's worth
Still keep my phone number at the bottom of your purse
Between your sticks of gum and all the
Reasons why you don't call me anymore

Just in case you change your mind
Hang a right at the lights, I get off work at five
I'm a song away on your stereo
So just get in your car and drive

I think it's high time you find
Diamonds in this coalmine called me
And there's reasons to prove I can change
If that's what you want me to do
That's what you want me to do

Four years I kept so clean
December came and I broke last week
Now there's a message on your machine
That I wish I could erase

In a coffee shop, behind menu's
Into a porcelain cup you broke the news
When you said there's nothing here left for you
Well I guess you meant me too

But it's high time you find
Diamonds in this coalmine called me
There's reasons to prove I can change
If that's what you want me to do
If that's what you want me to do
If that's what you want me to do

There's a tattoo
On your shoulder
And it reminds me
We get a little older (we get a little older)
We get a little older (we get a little older)

Here I am
Washed up on your shore once again
For reasons even I don't understand
I'm drawn into your flame

It's high time you find
Diamonds in this coalmine called me
There's reasons to prove I can change
If that's what you want me to do

I think it's high time you find
Diamonds in this coalmine called me
And there's reasons to prove I can change
If that's what you want me to do
If that's what you want me to do
If that's what you want me to do

Well, it's high time

I havn't even heard this song yet but the lyrics hit me hard. they are super. The song is obviously about the aftermath of a breakup. The memories, the questions, the little details and fear of growing far apart from that person; all the feelings that cloud ones mind everyhour of everyday. I can't wait to listen to it.

this is one of my all time favorite songs, i think its about a relationship gone bad, where he wants a second chance, hes sorry, and wants her to know hes not that bad, and she still wants him but is denying herself this.. i dont think he knows that but you can just tell

Four years I kept so clean December came and I broke last week

Im pretty sure hes talking about how he cheated on her. Either that or he was having bad feelings about her and the relationship, so he, "Left a message on your machine" but then regreted doing it, because she broke up with him and he now realises that he cant live without her.

Beautiful song!

First verses, It's been 1 year since the girl broke up with him but he still loves her and wants her to come over. And she obviously can't really let go of him either since she still keeps his phone number in her purce

Mid verses, 4 years has now gone by and he has been able to let her go but that december day he just had to call her. Still he wishes he hadn't done that because of the pain it can dig up again.

Jump back in the timeline to before verse 1 how she dumped him

The tattoo thing I don't understand

And now, after he called her 4 years later he just can't let go of her and (via the refrain that's the last "chapter" of the story from the first time it's played to the last) wants her to give him another chance to show her that he can be a really great guy for her.

It touches my soul every time I hear it.

I love love love love this song. First song I ever heard by them. I think its about a relationship that ended badly, and he is still in love with her, and she ignores he exists.

"It's been a tough year for all it's worth Still keep my phone number at the bottom of your purse Between your sticks of gum and all the Reasons why you don't call me anymore" It sounds like he's hoping she still keeps his phone number, just incase. Keeping hope that she might call, but she doesnt.

"Just in case you change your mind Hang a right at the lights, I get off work at five I'm a song away on your stereo So just get in your car and drive" Where he works, and being 'a song away' meaning it only takes a couple minutes, hoping she'll take a few minutes to see him.

"I think it's high time you find Diamonds in this coalmine called me" He thinks its time she saw something she like in him.

"And there's reasons to prove I can change If that's what you want me to do" He would change for her.

"Four years I kept so clean December came and I broke last week Now there's a message on your machine That I wish I could erase" For some reason this makes me think of alchohol. So maybe he was sober for four years and then broke and left a message on her machine which he regrets. I thought maybe it could be four years of not calling her but at the start it mentions one year, which makes me think theyve been broken up for only one year.

"In a coffee shop, behind menu's Into a porcelain cup you broke the news When you said there's nothing here left for you Well I guess you meant me too" I think this is more of a nostalgic flashback to when she broke up with him, telling him there was nothing for her, and he thinks there was nothing for him aswell.

"There's a tattoo On your shoulder And it reminds me We get a little older (we get a little older) We get a little older (we get a little older)" I think it means theres a tattoo on her shoulder (duh) but when he see's it, it reminds him of her, and that theyre getting older and wiser and they might get back together.

"Here I am Washed up on your shore once again For reasons even I don't understand I'm drawn into your flame" He's come back to her and he doesnt know why he's still in love with her.
