Anything But Fine Lyrics
If I could write you a song
With all the right words,
When would these black clouds begin to burn up
The moment you heard?
If I could make you a map,
Would you find your way home?
You know you can't keep me alive
Leave me alone.
Tell me I'm yours.
Tell me you're mine.
Tell me I'm anything but fine.
Tell me a story.
Tell me the time.
Tell me a lie.
If I could make you a tape
With all the right noise,
Would you smile when you listen and sigh
Boys will be boys?
If I could paint you a picture,
I'd turn black into white.
By now I'm not lookin' for love,
Just lookin' for tonight.
So tell me I'm yours.
Tell me you're mine.
Tell me I'm anything but fine.
Tell me a story.
Tell me the time.
Tell me a lie.
And tell me I'm yours.
Tell me you're mine.
Tell me I'm anything but fine.
Tell me a story.
Tell me the time.
Tell me a lie.
Tell me what I want to hear
Tomorrow I will disappear,
You won't ever have to see me again.
And tell me I'm yours.
Tell me you're mine.
Tell me I'm anything but fine.
Tell me a story.
Tell me the time.
Tell me a lie.
You said that words can only get you so far,
But I've got sentences that cover up all my scars.
In the end I might forget where they are,
Talk to me tonight.
And if we started all over today,
I think we know that we'd end up in the same place.
Maybe you're right and we've got nothing to say,
I want to hear it anyway.
I want to hear it anyway.
With all the right words,
When would these black clouds begin to burn up
The moment you heard?
Would you find your way home?
You know you can't keep me alive
Leave me alone.
Tell me you're mine.
Tell me I'm anything but fine.
Tell me a story.
Tell me the time.
Tell me a lie.
With all the right noise,
Would you smile when you listen and sigh
Boys will be boys?
I'd turn black into white.
By now I'm not lookin' for love,
Just lookin' for tonight.
Tell me you're mine.
Tell me I'm anything but fine.
Tell me a story.
Tell me the time.
Tell me a lie.
Tell me you're mine.
Tell me I'm anything but fine.
Tell me a story.
Tell me the time.
Tell me a lie.
Tomorrow I will disappear,
You won't ever have to see me again.
Tell me you're mine.
Tell me I'm anything but fine.
Tell me a story.
Tell me the time.
Tell me a lie.
But I've got sentences that cover up all my scars.
In the end I might forget where they are,
Talk to me tonight.
I think we know that we'd end up in the same place.
Maybe you're right and we've got nothing to say,
I want to hear it anyway.
I want to hear it anyway.

I don't think it has anything to do with a one night stand. To me, its someone who loves another person, but the relationship is strained. The verses are about wanting to get back to where they used to be, and the chorus is saying "Don't tell me things are fine". Like he knows there is stuff to work out and talk about, and he wants to hear anything other than "Things are ok how they are".
But I do agree, this band is amazing to see live...
Its always frightening when you realize just how much a song can mirror your own life. I mean, I've known this song forever, yet it only just started to really mean anything to me. It sort of hit my life, and now I can really understand what the song is about. Nothing is fine, even though we're still together. Because even when there really is nothing left to say, and the only thing which holds a couple together is a memory of how things used to be, it's hard to let go. Nearly impossible actually. And the line "tell me a lie." It's saying that "i'm not yours, you're not mine." Its over. And it's only a matter of time before it really comes home.
I think its about a couple whos relationship prettymuch went completely downhill. the couple lost most of their communication. the man is saying how he just wants one more worthwhile night, he doesnt need love or anything, just to be able to talk. He is trying to make her happy, but they just have nothing to say to eachother anymore, but he wants to hear anything she can come up with, even if its a lie.
I believe the song is about someone who has just gotten out of an amazing relationship with someone. This person would have really loved for the relationship to work out, but has come to terms with the fact it will never work out in the end. The person just wants the other person in the relationship to see that it is hard, but that it will be ok, although they can't see it now. I agree with the previous comment about the last night...the main person just wants one more night with the person, a night that really gets things sorted out, or rather the point is he doesn't want to sort things out and just be with the person...but in the morning he will be gone, no longer able to cause anymore pain and not have to worry about being hurt himself either.
This is quite a kitchy songs which starts kinda whimpy but undergoes a good piece of experience and ends strong but as kitchy as it started - but well - its the best kitchy song I know - and its surely not the only good song on The Wait.
One thing one can surely say for sure about Zox is, their albums work as unity of many songs - they are nicely put together besides beeing nice songs one for eachself.
This song is not "wimpy" It's beautiful.
I think it's about a one night stand. "I'm not looking for love; I'm just looking for tonight" clearly illustrates that. "Tell me I'm yours; tell me you're mine" but "tell me a lie."
This song is enchanting. The violin is incendiary. :o)
everytime i see them in concert the violin player amazes me...he is amazing.

It's about a man who falls in love with a girl in a quick, sexual way, but then he finds out that he really does love her. But she doesn't love him back.
