So Sweetly Lyrics

I watched her sleep from the driver's seat
And she turned into an ocean spitting fish into my sea
Oh how she flickered to remain so young and innocently sweet
And how the sevrets in her belly wrestle softly for her keeping

Like the ring that left her finger green
And like the knife that set her shivering body free
Or like the knot she tied to so sweetly around me
We were aware of our boundaries
Someday I'll meet you on a telephone wire
Won't have to love you through a prayer
I can just touch you with my eyes and
We will talk about the world just as if we were still alive
And you will rest within my feathers
And I will have you for the keeping

And you will fly
so sweetly
around me
And you'll teach me to fly
So sweetly
Around you
And you will fly
so sweetly
around me
And you'll teach me to fly
so sweetly
around you

And if you talk to Jesus
Ask him if he wants me to come home
And if he says he's seen us changing all his plans to suit our own
Will you apologize and stand behind the selfish moves we've made
While learning life is strange
And people change then circle around again

It seems this song is about someone dearly departed. However, the line about the "knife that set her shivering body free" is a bit creepy. "We were aware of our boundaries" seems like the writer is saying he and this girl knew she was going to die soon or something like that. Aparently they fell for each other anyways, and I would hate to think that this rather pleasant and hopeful sounding song is about an assisted suicide or mercy killing.

Whatever the event was, she made it to heaven. Interestingly enough, whoever typed out the lyrics to the song made a small but crucial mistake. The second the the last line of the song actual goes "Will you apologize OR stand behind the selfish moves we've made." I thought maybe the "or" was an "and" so I played the song for a closer listen, and it turns out it's a clearly annunciated "or".

This kinda bothers me. There's a rather disturbing trend on songmeanings.net I've noticed. Kids focus on how they would like to interpret songs, and while there's nothing terribly wrong with that, they totally skip the part where any rational person should ask "what did the artist intend to be communicated?" and they focus on relating actually profound songs to their bologna highschool relationships, and other such American teenage mush.

Here we see a more dire mishap. Kids actually hearing the lyrics they want, and not the words actually sung. That little "or" changes a lot as far as the meaning of the song goes. I like that it says "or". If you don't, have some respect for Page France and refrain from butchering the meaning they wanted to put into this song.

This does sound to me like there was some sort of assisted suicide. He asks his dead lover is she will apologize to Jesus for "the selfish moves we've made While learning life is strange."
It's beautiful, though.

And, of course, it is DEFINITELY an OR not an AND in that line towards the end. Very definitely an or.
Also, there's a typo in the first section...secrets, not sevrets.
