I think this song is about watching someone slowly kill themselves(ciggarettes!) then dealing with their death, the person is finally at rest, sort of a "last goodbye".

I agree with RobertBunch. It does sound like somebody killing themselves slowly, I understand and can relate to that kinda. Like, my dad & sister both smoke and my brother does chewing tobacco and they won't stop. It's BS! The holding on to you part is like about how the singer is trying to keep them alive, by trying 2 save them. (Maybe.)
i agree with the killing themselves slowly, but i think they are doing it by cutting, the line "feel pain no more" is reffering to self injury. the person who this song is about probably commited sucide.
