Flags of Dawn Lyrics
This darkness would
Eclipse our will
A cold wind blows
Across these hills
A swinging gaze
From the hangman's tree
A crows nest view
Of what's left to see
The lifeless forms of Saints
Return the silence to the snow.
And still, beneath, the grain is waiting
for its time to grow.
So hold on
Hold tight
Hope in daylight
We will overcome
So put away your fear
A morning star will soon appear
And bring an end
To this dark night
And we must run for to meet the light
Watered by the blood of martyrs
Blessed and blind as sons and daughters
Sleep with one eye open
And live with both eyes shut
So lets find the place where sight begins
And see the things that we saw when our
Eyes were bright and wet against the light
And hold on
Hold tight
Hope in daylight
We will overcome
Open your eyes
Over the new sight
Fly the flags of dawn
Eclipse our will
A cold wind blows
Across these hills
A swinging gaze
From the hangman's tree
A crows nest view
Of what's left to see
The lifeless forms of Saints
Return the silence to the snow.
And still, beneath, the grain is waiting
for its time to grow.
Hold tight
Hope in daylight
We will overcome
A morning star will soon appear
And bring an end
To this dark night
And we must run for to meet the light
Watered by the blood of martyrs
Blessed and blind as sons and daughters
Sleep with one eye open
And live with both eyes shut
So lets find the place where sight begins
And see the things that we saw when our
Eyes were bright and wet against the light
Hold tight
Hope in daylight
We will overcome
Over the new sight
Fly the flags of dawn

well, i'm the first one to post on this song. it's a tough one to crack, for me, anyway.
obviously there's a general inclination of waiting out a rough period and waking up somewhere better. the metaphor is a dark night, having to keep on pushing through the rough spots and waking up and seeing again, in a sense.
ha people prolly think this song is fake.. WELL ITS NOT, it's a B-Side to "Vheissu" I love this song. When i heard it tonight i was like that isnt Dustin, but it is!! I like it because its different. It's about waiting for god to come, holding on to hope, life and that things happen for a reason. Also we should open our eyes, stop watching for the bad with one eye open, then living dead in the daylight. this song brings tears to my eyes. This song makes me feel good with how bad my life has been lately. I can guarantee you no matter how much this band has changed i will love them forever. Goodnight, ill dream to this song...
This song reminds me of "between the end and where we lie" just the beat to it and the way he sings it. it truly is an amazing song
Everyone has their own interpretation, i dont not believe its about waiting for god to come (it is about hope though). Some thrice songs have bible references, but some of these songs are kinda vague on their christian references. I guess if you read in to it too much, you can see a connection.
Anyways, this song is amazing. should of been on vheissu
maybe dustin is speaking directly to Christians and nonbelievers alike. When he says, "so lets find the place where sight begins and see the things that we saw when our eyes were bright and wet against the light"
Maybe hes talking to Christians that have fallen away and is pleading with them to return to God who is the source of the light. Beautiful song though.
I'd gladly take this over Like Moth's to Flame or Holdfast- both are good songs, but Flags is just awesome. I really, really wish the band explained how this song came into being in that little booklet that came with Vheissu...
Imo Hold Fast Hope is one of the best songs on Vheissu, I don't think this song is that great, I like the other b-side better 'Weight of Glory'. This song is clearly about hope, not just in a religious way.
