And the lions ate the Christians and the
Christians burned the witches
And even I am out of explanations
But maybe that doesn't matter anymore
'Cause maybe you can read my thoughts
I'm going to school, going to work
Doing the dishes, knife and fork
All of that, all in all, hand in hand
Spring and fall -
I believe I could get through it
I could even get into it
But only you could make me do it
And if there is disease in you
I want to have that disease too
’Cause if you’d die
Then i should die beside you
I began to read your profile
You are independent, mobile
- Well i know just as little
’Bout perfection
But we’re running in the same direction
So maybe that doesn’t matter anyhow
Belly aches, hair falls off
Skin gets covered with liver spots
Blood in the mouth and a racking cough
Heads get filled
With feverish thoughts
I believe i could get through it
I could even get into it
But only you can make me do it
And if there is disease in you
I want to have that disease too
’Cause i want everything that
Is inside you
And if there is disease in you
I want to have that disease too
’Cause if you’d die
Then i should die beside you
If there is disease in you
- Fall asleep and i will wake beside you
And if there is disease in you
I want to have that disease too
’Cause i want everything that
Is inside you
Inside you
Inside you
Christians burned the witches

wonderin why there's no comments about this song. It's absolutely beautiful...
I'm pretty sure this is about a religious man falling for somebody who his religion says is 'diseased' - maybe a gay man (with the obvious AIDS reference) or just not accepted.
These are the correct lyrics, BTW:

This song is so BEAUTIFUL, one of my favorites... Anyway, I agree with dragonflyeyes, that's the way i see it ^^
I see, not only the obvious AIDS reference, but also a declaration of dedication to his partner despite the hardships that will be present, which is summed up by "I believe I could get through it / I could even get into it / But only you could make me do it" and '’Cause if you’d die / Then I should die beside you."
I've had this one song on repeat for the last hour- I cant get the first two stanzas out of my head >.
Ola did an interview last month, and talked about "Disease"
http://www.thearkworld.com/Interview080104_EN.pdf "“Disease” is definitely not about AIDS. Actually it is not about any disease at all, in any other way than as a metaphor. In fact it is about love, about togetherness between two people, and total dedication."
I love this song... I totally agree. It is about dedication to that one person, you choose.

I can't believe it's not about AIDS...the symptoms described seem so specific:
Belly aches, hair falls off Skin gets covered with liver spots Blood in the mouth and a racking cough Head gets filled With feverish thoughts
What does that sound like to you? Still, Ola wouldn't like about these things...
Many of the symptoms described aren't specific to any disease. I'm taking a class on the sociology of ageing at the moment (which is why this interpretation pops into my head) and some of the symptoms are incredibly easy to link to age- something that's considered a "disease" by much of western society. Looking at it from that perspective, there's the idea of growing old together.

There's plenty of other specific diseases that fit those symptoms to some degree (cancer is another that jumps into my head right away). Based on Ola's description, I'd guess that disease is...
There's plenty of other specific diseases that fit those symptoms to some degree (cancer is another that jumps into my head right away). Based on Ola's description, I'd guess that disease is less of a metaphor, per se, and more of an example of the extent of one person's dedication to their loved one. It's a common theme throughout society- just think about the standard marriage vows, which often include phrases like "in sickness and in health" and "in good times and in bad."
Er, sorry about jumping on an old post, etc.- I'm writing a paper, and my brain is stuck in "assignment mode." If I don't get this out there, it's gonna be stuck in my head all night >.<
