3000 Flowers Lyrics

she was part of an inner circle
daughters of the mother land
like a ship
lit up at sea
with scars where its talons used to be
scars where its talons used to be
scars where its talons used to be

i was a slow learner
and i moved in flourishes
i was a late bloomer
i moved in flourishes
last man on the scene
fresh face on a dying scene
one hundreth of a wet black bough
one hundreth of a wet black bough
one hundreth of a wet black bough

i was clytemnestra on a good day
dispensing wisdom to the uninitiated
the initiates brought out in tumbrels
shat out by the dawn
shat out by the dawn
shat out by the dawn

and like a woman i was careless
as the wealthy american underground
wept at the sight of rhode island sinking
into the sea

and the sky
still reigns
supreme over the land
as the music lovers
sat cross-legged in the sand
and in time and in space
and in other words in a band
who, much like churchgoers...

and the sky
still reigns
supreme over the land
as the music lovers
sat cross-legged in the sand
and in time and in space
and in other words in the band
who, much like churchgoers, fuck themselves... up

dan bejar makes me proud to be canadian!1 ......................................................................

the song title is possibly referencing the 16th chapter of the mountains of california, by John Muir.

"wet, black bough..." is a reference to the poem "in a station of the metro" by ezra pound.

super-good song from an amazing album. Oh, and Clytemnestra refers to the wife of Agamemnon, the daughter of Zeus & Leda when Zeus turned into a swan to bear two children with Leda.

Clytemnestra was the wife of Agamemnon, king of the Ancient Greek kingdom of Mycenae or Argos. Clytemnestra was also the daughter to Zeus and Leda. In the Oresteia by Aeschylus, she was a 'femme fatale' who murdered her husband, Agamemnon.

figured this made more sense. :)

To me he's singing "With scarves where its halyards used to be" and not "...scars where its talons used to be". Since he was describing a ship, halyards makes more sense. A halyard (halliard) is a rope used to raise the sails. Other than that I have no idea what the song is about, but I still like it.

I agree with ginintonic that it does sound like he's singing "scarves", not "scars". But I really don't hear "halyards", even though that would make more sense with ships. It definitely sounds like "talons", although I could be persuaded that it's "talents".
