Since You've Been Around Lyrics
I’m wandering
I’m crawling
I’m two steps away from falling
Just can’t seem to get around
I’m heavy
I’m weary
Not thinking clearly
I just can’t seem to find solid ground
Since you’ve been around
I’m running
I’m hiding
But you’ll never find me
Cuz I’ve always felt lost in a crowd
I’m sinking
I’m drowning
I’m so afraid of losing
My head’s been spinning round and round
Since you’ve been around
I’m foolish and crazy
I just think that maybe I gotta things to figure out
I’m winning
I’m losing
I’m afraid of never choosing this heart of mine, so beaten down
Before you came around
I’m crawling
I’m two steps away from falling
Just can’t seem to get around
I’m weary
Not thinking clearly
I just can’t seem to find solid ground
Since you’ve been around
I’m hiding
But you’ll never find me
Cuz I’ve always felt lost in a crowd
I’m drowning
I’m so afraid of losing
My head’s been spinning round and round
Since you’ve been around
I just think that maybe I gotta things to figure out
I’m winning
I’m losing
I’m afraid of never choosing this heart of mine, so beaten down
Before you came around

Simple and beautiful. A song showing how one person can change because of nothing else but the presence of another.
That's right, wolf_cub! The lyrics are simple, but this is a really nice song. I think the person in these lyrics are also struggling with deciding whether they want to begin some kind of romance with the person that's 'been around' or not.
I agree with both of you. It basically makes my cry everytime I hear it. It's like...the way she sounds. She's so content...happy. Yet there is this yearning in her voice. I dont know..but it gets me every time.
It's strange...it sounds at first as though this person who has shown up is dragging her down, is hurting her in some way or distressing her. But then at the end she says that her heart was so beaten down BEFORE this person came around. So, did he (assuming this is a love song...could be a song about a parent who left and then resurfaced, etc.) cause her pain, or was she in pain and now he's uplifting her?
It reminds me of that one person all of us "falls in love with" when we are so young in high school, and everytime that person shows up in class or wherever, it's like it reminds us of how desperate we are in wanting to be with them and it hurts, but yet it makes us excited and happy at the same time when they show up. That mixture of excitement and anxiety...or as Ethan Hawke says in the movie Gattaca, "I never realized how far away I was from my dream than when I was standing right beside it."
Great song.
I think this is a song about someone who is in a relationship with a great guy but she's had some bad experiences in the past and no matter how much she tries she can't fully put it behind her. Secretly she is scared of losing this guy so she doesn't want to open her heart up fully in case she gets hurt again "I'm winning I'm losing I'm afraid of never chosing." Suggests that she is in love with him but she is scared to fully commit her heart is saying go but she's stopping herself.
It's an amazing song!!
At fist I thought it was about being consumed in another in a positive healthy sense, but now I think it's about someone she doesn't want to be around...in a unhealthy relationship kinda way.
I love Rosie's voice.
Correct lyrics:
*I’m afraid you’ll never find me
These lyrics represent the general perspective of relationships and capture the essence of the actual process of ‘falling in love’. I’ve had people tell me before that they would hate and dread reliving what they had to go through during and around my age. It’s one of the hardest things in life to face, everyday searching for who you are, who you want to be, and finding the one you want to keep.
It’s such a vulnerable position, and so when one plunges into the deep waters of forming relationships and commitment, in a way, they have to expect being hurt. Why? Because everybody who wants that grandiose ending and happily ever after has to live life, earn their battle scars, and go through heart breaks so that they finally know what they want.
But sometimes there are these cases where all that mess and everything one goes through in life ends up confusing them more and so they put up barriers between them and others. Basically, she’s just deciding on whether to break down her barriers and open the door or not…
