Chariot Lyrics
swing
like a chariot
at the trumpet call
when we're all unsaved
swing
like a wrecking-ball
like the heart of god
what a mystery
fill
with the wedding feast
for the snakes and beasts
with the angel teeth
swing
come and carry us
come and marry us
to the blushing circus king
and dance like elephants
as he comes to us
through a fiery golden ring
with a violin
and a song to sing
as he brings for us our wings
now he's one of us
plays the tambourine
break the bread for us
and sing
will you wait for us
will you stay for us
will you grace us everything
you're a wrecking ball
with a heart of gold
we will wait for it to swing
like a chariot
swing it low for us
come and carry us away
so we will become
a happy ending
so we will become
a happy ending
fire come and carry us
make us shine or make us rust
tell us that you care for us
we need to hear a word for us
let your body sail with us
or let our ribs return to dust
chariot
you swing for us
you think that you can carry all of us
so we will become
a happy ending
so we will become
a happy ending
so we will become
a happy ending

either way you're listening to a song either about jesus, or using jesus and christianity as the main positive imagery.
I think it is "When we're all UNSAVED"
This song is filled with religious imagery....the Chariot in question is taken straight from the bible. This song seems to be based on the Rapture or Armageddon itself.
That said, I think that mulmo alread stated that Page France isnt a "religious band". Michael Nau grew up in a religious home and so alot of his imagery comes from that perspective. If you think about it, whether you are christian or not, Jesus is a symbol of "sacrifice", heaven is a symbol of "paradise", Mary is a recognizeable "mother"......
Page France uses nature and recognizeable imagery in their songs to perfection. Hello Dear Wind was the best album of 05.....get yourself a copy and do yourself that favor!
I like this song. It always makes me happy. I get tired sometimes of hardcore worship songs with unoriginal lyrics.
I know this isn't a "worship" song, but as a Christian, it's fun. Makes me feel like a little kid again. That's what I like about this song and "Junkyard". They're just fun. Plus the music is good
I suppose perhaps I am trying too hard to read theology into their songs, but I see a few problems with this as a worship song. 1st and most importantly, the focus of the song is on us and not on God. Worship is not about us, it is us realizing the power and glory and might and holiness and perfection of God. 2nd it is not reverent, Jesus is not a circus king whose job it is to sing for us. He is the Son of God and equal with the Father. He came the first time in peace,...

He came the first time in peace, but when He comes back it will be with a sword! 3rd, I'm wondering if there isn't unitarian theme, "when we're all unsaved" progresses to "we think that you can carry all of us"
Biblical imagery and religious overtones won't get you to Heaven, and I do hope that Page France is full of Chrisians who are using their gifts to draw interest and glorify God to people who perhaps wouldn't hear of Him otherwise (which would mean I am mistaken, and by all means it would be better for them if I am misunderstanding!--David Eugene Edwards is doing something similar, as a Christian making music for people who aren't Christian.)
also one more thing, if you haven't heard of her; check out Misty Edwards "People Get ready"/The Lion of the Tribe of Judah song. Definitely not unorigional.

I love this song and the album it came off of. I can't decide if the references to Jesus are based on the religious viewpoints of Page France, or if they use him for imagery purposes. I'm leaning towards imagery purposes, because that's what I am hoping.
This song is lovely beyond words.
i just love this song
even though i don't quite understand it...
but i think that's why i love it so much..
beautiful song, beautiful band
"so we will become a happy ending."
gorgeous.
I believe it's "breaks the bread for us," as that makes more sense than "raise the bread for us."
Does it really matter if the song uses christian imagery to tell a story? It's not as though he's shoving his views upon us. Much like Sufjan's Seven Swans, religious or not, it's good music.
this song is beautiful. the band is ok, but this song stands far above any of their other stuff.
absolutely love this song. sensitive, but adventurous.
i'm thinking it's "let our RIBS return to dust." not bridge. yeah?
