The Runner Lyrics

Through the night, through the dawn
Behind you another runner is born
Don't look back you've been there
Feel the mist as your breath hits the air
And it's underneath the moonlight
Passing some
Still your heart beats in the moonlight
Like a drum

Through the night, through the dawn
Behind you another runner is born
Don't look back, you've been there
Feel the mist as your breath hits the air
And it's underneath the moonlight
Passing some
Still your heart beats in the moonlight
Like a drum

And you will run your time
A shooting star across the sky
And you will surely cross the line
To pass on the flame
Sun come up, sun go down
Hear the feet see the sweat on the ground
Watch your step, keep your cool
Though you can't see what's in front of you

And it's underneath the moonlight
Passing some
Still your heart beats in the moonlight
Like a drum

Well this song is most likely about a guy progressing through life, never give up, don't look back because someone will fill your shoes eventually. You will end up with the life you want to, giving your experience through life to other people.

Awesome song btw :)

Cover art for The Runner lyrics by Manfred Mann

If I remember right, this song was nominated to be the official theme song of the Summer Olympics of... I'm gonna guess... 1984. However, it lost out to a Whitney Houston song, what was the name? I think it was One Moment in Time.

Well, I see 1984 was the right year for Runner. However, apparently the Houston song was in play during the 1988 Olympics, so there was no possible competition between the two for any Olympic music spot. Except in my own (admittedly faulty) memory.
