Telescope Eyes (LP version) Lyrics
Oh, you humor me today
Calling me out to play
With your telescope eyes, metal teeth
I can't be seen with you, you see
Please don't make me cry
Please don't make me cry
I'm just like you I know you know
I'm just like you so leave me alone
I wonder why can't you see
You're just not near enough like me
With you telescope eyes, metal teeth
I can't be seen with you
Please don't make me cry
Please don't make me cry
I'm just like you I know you know
I'm just like you so leave me alone
Please don't make me cry
Please don't make me cry
I'm just like you I know you know
I'm just like you so leave me alone
Oh, you humor me today
Calling me out to play
With your telescope eyes, metal teeth
I can't be seen with you, you see
Please don't make me cry
I'm just like you I know you know
I'm just like you so leave me alone
You're just not near enough like me
With you telescope eyes, metal teeth
I can't be seen with you
Please don't make me cry
I'm just like you I know you know
I'm just like you so leave me alone
Please don't make me cry
I'm just like you I know you know
I'm just like you so leave me alone

To me, this version song means lameness. I don't see how it was necessary to totally castrate the lyrics of the song just because they changed the speed and arrangement. I don't know if it was their choice or not, but the result of cutting "you freak," and the second verse is that the (IMO great) meaning of the song is totally obscured.
mockingsmile, you dink, they changed the lyrics to have a more calm approach about the song. they are a christian band so they wanted to be less offensive.

I don't think I'd agree with dooditzaustin. They definitely have a Christian bent about them, and I believe in their very early days they referred to themselves as a Christian band but then probably realized to do so would be suicide for their musical careers. Considering their listener base, it's a very smart move on their parts to not mention anything religious and keep the music secular.

And I know that when you sign with a record label sometimes you have to do things you don't want to do. The band knew that emasculating this song would piss off their fans, but Warner saw the possibility to make a radio-friendly single, thus this song was born.
I heard that Warner Bros. asked the band to re-write the song into this... Why would they do that, and cut out the word "freak"?
I agree with mockingsmile. I liked the other lyrics better.
tru dat. the original is much better.
yea i deff liked the first version, soooo much better, so much more...hard hitting, it's way more emotional on the original lyrics, love the song never the less :]
this song is about the "monsters in your closet" type of a thing.
the music video definitely shows that. :)
